Can anybody shed some light on it? What would have happened if it was a success?
Is there any reason why Jinnah wanted the League to appoint all five Muslim representatives other than him believing the League represented all Indian Muslims?
It was part of Wavell mission, Muslim league was the right wing party and congress was centerist. Jinnah objected to appointing muslim representatives by congress as he wanted to prove the league is the sole representative of muslims of India. Both parties didn't agree and congress became less receptive of League's demand in next Cabinet Mission Plan.
Most prominent of them was first human resource minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, he wrote a book called India wins freedom had has his opinion on two nation theory:) Jinnah called him muslim lord haw haw and also congress showboy etc:D, he studied in Mecca and medina and was descendent of famous Ulema on Islam but surprisingly he was against separate electorate for Muslims, he was more committed to secularism but Jinnah was centrist bent towards right wing:)
Nehru other than Gandhi was always against recognition of religion to be used as political power, another thing that I like about him, he never betrayed his notion for religious free government for political benefit, this was even not inherited by Indira, but she was different when it comes to grabbing power:D
Abul Kalam Azad is also famous in Pakistan due to his Tafseer (commentary / explanation) of Quran. Many religious bodies and famous scholars like Molana Modudi are criticised in Pakistan, because they gave fatwa against partition of India.
Well Jinnah had no stopping after elections of 1946, But Kalam is very harsh on Jinnah,Patel etc, but he was soft on Nehru because both had same vision about future. Pakistan had to happen specially after riots occured but the way it happened is very much objectionable to me.
