‘18,000 MW hydropower projects soon’ Friday, January 18, 2008
LAHORE: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is working on the feasibility reports and the engineering designs of various hydropower projects with an accumulative generation capacity of about 18,000 Megawatt (MW), officials said in a briefing at WAPDA House on Thursday.
The prime minister’s special assistant, Amar Lal, during his visit to WAPDA House, was told that the feasibility reports and the designs would be available for the construction of the hydropower projects in the next two weeks.
Amar Lal said WAPDA was aware of the country’s growing energy requirements, and it had been taking possible measures to meet those requirements.
Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) managing director Munawar Baseer Ahmed said rental powerhouses were being set up across the country for immediate relief from power shortage, besides rehabilitating the existing thermal power plants. He said PEPCO would replace ordinary bulbs of 60-watt and 100-watt with 100,000 energy saving bulbs. He said a plan had been devised to ensure a smooth electricity supply to domestic consumers during Muharram. staff report
Walk down any street in Pakistan and suffer the 12 hour load shedding and than you can truly say that under Musharraf beat that. Paper projects galore under this incompetent third rate dictator.

Daleel bhai, if I was the MD of the electricity supply companies I would have load shedding for 23 hours a day until people start paying for electricity. This would stop the encouragement of bribing people and stop electricity chors, allowing more money for the development of the infrastructure.
12 hours per day load shedding is quite generous and lenient for what Pakistan is going to suffer if people do not stop the electricity chors, and continue to encourage bribery for people to look the other way..

I am glad people like you are not incharge there. This is one of the stupidest suggestions I have seen regarding load-shedding/recovery-of-bills. Instead of overhauling your own organization you would blame customers for bribing and stealing electricity.
Besides, by receiving bills you will only get money, not produce more electricity.

The money that will be invested in improving the infrastructure to help provide more electricity, to cater for the booming demand due to the unprecdented economic growth. :)
^Please keep pro-government propaganda for yourself. So unpaid bills is the reason for us being short of electricity? Can you prove that please.
Mashallah. Are you saying every houselhold and businesses that benefit from electricity are paying their proper bills? Are you also suggesting that non payment of bills does not affect the investment in improving the infrastructure? :)
and the extra money that is being used to build bridges out of cities couldn’t have been used to produce more electricity… there is lot more money that is available to setup power plants to meet the needs… but no you have your own ideas… I am very happy that people in Wapda and Kesc are not like you.

I dont know about every household. But I am convinced that majority is paying their proper bills. I dont know about KHI but thats a fact regarding Lahore. IMF has already provided us with lots and lots an money....and we fail to invest properly to produce electricity?!?

No. The money that is being used to build bridges cannot be used for electricity. Why should it be? KESC needs to generate its own oney through bill paying customers. If people don't pay their bills or are busy churaana electricity, or encourage bribery by paying the meter readers, then people should stop complaining about load shedding. I still say 12 hours of load shedding is quite generous. Don't be surprised to see a lot more load shedding. As I said, if it was up to me I would have 23 hours of load shedding. Laton kai bhoot baton sai nahee mantay. :)

Do you know that WAPDA or whoever is authority makes up for stolen electricity charges thru something probably called Fuel Adjustment Charges (or it may be some other term)... so your crying about stolen electricity is not going to take power production too far, sorry.
