£18,000 England salary - Good?

Hello people in England. I have interview for a health related job with above salary. Do u thing it is a decent starting salary for a diploma holder after bachelors degree? I did bachelors from UHS Lahore and then came to UK and have done two , six month diplomas.

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

i think its very good.

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

It's okay. Starting salaries can really vary here depending on your degree and where you studied and therefore where you find employment.

Depends where you live but if it's London, don't expect to save anything or much one the rent and bills have been paid.

I think the more important point is where it can take you? Will you be stuck at this salary level or can you work up?

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

I think given your education you should be taking this opportunity, especially if you've got nothing else lined up.

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

Its a basic salary ... life might get tough if you are going to be based in or near london as its freakishly expensive there ... anywhere else in England you will be ok with that salary .. though like Stoppit said , no savings on this salary ...

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

peanuts - it is very hard to manage a living earning anything under 22 k ... An okayish starting salary should be 22 to 24 k .....

plus you will be paying some tax on 18 k - so you wont be getting full 18 k :)

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

if you are jobless, this is the best opportunity in hand at the moment. So just go for it and keep looking for the better ones.

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

Yes I learnt that I will be paying tax and I wont get all of 18000! :-(. But I dont have any other job offers so I think Ill take it depending upon the Interview. England experiance will be good even if I want to go middle east later in life.

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

1200 a month isnt awful for a single person.

You can live off it but wont really live a luxurious life!

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

i think with a non UK degree and in current job market, getting a foot in the door is critical, so I would say jump on it, especially if there are no other opportunities. learn all you can, build strong relationships, understand what you need to be attractive to the industry and build those skills.

Re: £18,000 England salary - Good?

Dont be disappointed...look at +ives that have come out of this
-- you know now how the job interviews go for these positions.
-- After this bad interview, why dont you write down all the questions that were asked to you and then bring at least 2 or three examples from your past jobs and write those down for each of the questions that you were asked.
-- practice on how to relate those questions with your past experiences and how to answer them

-- BIG THING -- even after getting rejection, I would send out a thank you note to the people who interviewed you....not many people do that and it leaves a very strong professional impression that even after they rejected you, you are thankful that they considered you and they would perhaps keep you in mind for any future openings in their company....YOU GOT absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain if you do this.
