Go Pak :jhanda:

Paksitan should aim to win this match along with the BD one to qualify. The one against Aus will be tough and difficult to win.

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

Lankans are playing really well at the moment. Even without Muralitharan their bowling line up is quite good for 20-20 and their batters are in great form.

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

Afridi needs to come in at 4 or 5 regardless of when they bat; its critical.

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

Allah karay batting click kur jaey.. In my opinion its a MUST WIN situation for pak in order to qualify for semi-final. Lets hope we dont have to wait for pak to beat Aus in order to do so.

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

On paper Sri Lanka appear stronger but if Pakistan can post a competitive score batting first (say 180) or restrict them to under 170, it should be an interesting game.

Misbah also needs to be promoted above Malik. Afridi has yet to fire in this tournament and lets hope that he delivers tomorrow

I would not have selected Salman Butt (not suited to twenty-20 IMO, takes too long to get going, slow starter and wastes too many deliveries), Hafeez (useless) and Yasir Arafat (way too expensive, has been going for 9-10 RPO)

In an ideal world this would be my team.

Imran Nazir
Kamran Akmal

Younis
Yousuf
Misbah

Shoaib Malik
Afridi (promote him as per match situation)
Razzaq

Actor/Sohail Tanveer
Asif
Umar Gul

(This team bats well down to eight)

Anyways lets see what combination the selectors come up with tomorrow

Pakistan v Sri Lanka, Group F, Johannesburg
**
Power-packed Sri Lanka face toughest test
**

Sri Lanka have been one of the in-form teams in this tournament, quelling with ease challenges from Kenya and New Zealand, but Pakistan, who beat them in a warm-up match, could offer a tougher challenge. Of late, Pakistan have had the measure of the Sri Lankans,**losing just two of the last ten ODIs between them**, and while Sri Lanka will still start off as favourites, there could be an upset on the cards.

**
Bat play:**
Sri Lanka's top order has been in *rip-roaring form **so far in the tournament, scoring 260 against Kenya and then chasing down 164 with plenty to spare against New Zealand. Both those games were in Johannesburg, which means they are accustomed to the conditions. Sanath Jayasuriya has been pick of the lot so far, scoring 149 runs from 88 balls. His recent ODI form against Pakistan hasn't been so flash, though: in his last ten games against them, he only averages 20.50, and the challenge for Sri Lanka - and the chance for Pakistan - will be if he falls early.*

Pakistan's batting has been iffy so far, struggling a bit against Scotland and then making a mess of what should have been a comfortable chase against India.*The openers, Imran Nazir and Salman Butt, have failed in both innings, and Mohammad Hafeez might get a look-in at the top of the order on Monday. Misbah-ul-Haq has been the man in form, and deserves to bat higher than his No. 6 slot.
*

Wrecking ball: Mohammad Asif destroyed India's top order and still finished on the losing side in Durban, but in the excellent batting conditions that have been a constant here, even Asif might struggle. With slow bowlers doing so well here, Hafeez is a near-certainty to play, and his canny offspin will bolster Pakistan's bowling strength.

Sri Lanka's weak link in their game against New Zealand was Gayan Wijekoon, the left-arm medium pacer who has neither the pace nor the consistency to cut it in this format. Expect him to be replaced, possibly by Kaushal Lokuarachchi, who was the 12th man against New Zealand.

Keep your eye on: Mahela Jayawardene. He played a little gem against New Zealand, scoring 35 from 18 balls, and is in good enough form to play a match-winning hand.

Pitching it right: It doesn't matter which strip in the square is used, it'll still be superb for batting. Under light, the ball should come on to the bat even better.

Teams

Pakistan (likely): Salman Butt, Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Nazir, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik (capt), Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Kamran Akmal (wk), Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, Mohammad Asif

Sri Lanka (likely): Upul Tharanga, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Chamara Silva, Jehan Mubarak, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Chaminda Vaas, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

I cant understand why is Malik so reluctant to bowl. In the recent match against Aussies, Collingwood came on to bowl himself in 5th over after his opening bowlers were thrashed. Ian chappel commented that Collingwood isnt afraid to put himself in the firing line even tho he realizes he can be expensive but he puts a message across that I am willing to get shot first before my team does. It gives whole team a lift and a desire to do well in adverse situations.

I hope Malik realizes that he is a good enough bowler (specially in limited overs matches) and he should trust his own bowling rather than Hafeez's.

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

Not so sure about Malik, have never rated him as a batsman but I agree with you on the other two names...... and don't forget the silent assassin Jayawardene. He played a little gem against New Zealand, scoring 35 from 18 balls, and is in good enough form to play a match-winning hand.

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

Pakistan has to play really good

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

if they can get jaya early, they have match in thier pockets.

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

Afridi is like a khota sikka, chal gaya to chaa gaya, nai chala to koi baat nai, he is unpredictable and unreliable person while batting, so I suggest to send him as an opener, he don't take much balls in wasting, either he will make runs or will get out, he will get out at the lower order as well, but in sending at higher order we have a chance to get more and quick runs!!! ...

so I suggest to send him at # 1...

Re: 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg - Sep 17, 2007

It will be a tough game...if Pakistan bat well. The batting has been struggling and it has to pick up now...or it will be too late.

key players - Afridi, Nazir, Jaysuriya, Jayawardne
