(APRIL 3rd.'07)15th Rabi-al-Awwal - Foundation laid for the 1st Masjid is Islam at Quba.
Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) left Makkah for Madina on the 1st of
Rabi-al-Awwal in the 1st Hijrah and arrived at the town of Quba on the 5th of
Rabi-al-Awwal. He left behind Imam Ali(a.s.) and the womenfolk of his family in
Makkah and instructed Imam Ali(a.s.) to return the items to the people of
Quraish who had left them with the Prophet(sawaw) for safekeeping and join him
on the way to Madina. The Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) stayed in Quba waiting for
the arrival of Imam Ali(a.s.) for about 8 to 10 days, and thus laid the
foundation of waiting for the nominated Imam(a.s.). Therefore, waiting for the
nominated Imam(a.s.) is sunnat-e-Rasool(sawaw). It should be noted here that
Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) had specifically announced the nomination of Imam
Ali(a.s.) as his successor at the “Dawat-e-Zul-Ashira”.
After the arrival of Imam Ali(a.s.) in Quba, Prophet Mohammad(sawaw)
laid the foundation of the Masjid-e-Quba on the 15th of Rabi-al-Awwal in the 1st
Hijrah. There is a contradiction between historian on this account whereby some
state that the foundation of this Masjid had been laid before the arrival of the
Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) but the more popular opinion is that the Prophet
Mohammad(sawaw) laid the foundation himself.
The Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) moved on to Madina from Quba after the
arrival of Imam Ali(a.s.) with the womenfolk of his family and the laying of the
foundation of Masjid-e-Quba.
