159.5 kph SHOAIB in the fastest....

shoaib akhtar retains his title as the world’s fastest bowler after he bowled at 159.5 kph, just 1.4 kph short of the 100 mph mark…

he must have been happy to see that…
although in the interview he said that he never cared for speed

long live the pakistani cricket..

lets hope he gets the 100 soon so that he can concentrate on his bowling more.

Totally shocking has been the fact that he is actually completing his full quota of ten overs in these matches!!

And as if that was not enough, he is actually bowling better!!

See what the world has come to!!!

Quite agree. I think he is maturing quite fast and let's hope he keeps it up. If only the other street gulle danda player Afridi can follow his example.

he has been the best of the paki bowlers in this tournament and was also very good in the recent matches against WI....

He may be fast but its his slower balls which are taking wickets

AK

So basically you’re saying he is still effective

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

One thing that makes him different from other fast bowlers is that he starts out with slow bowling then he reaches his max speed in his 3rd or 4th over, alot of stamina.
Who said you can't bowl fast and good at the same time and not give enough runs.

wow just checked his bowling figures for the tournament so far they r really gd i am amased wats going on with him

Shoaib’s speed is certainly impressive, although I think when you use the term “World’s Fastest Bowler”, you mean, the fastest bowler of the present lot. At this point, Shoaib is probably not the fastest in the all time list.

The equipment to measure the speed of the ball was not introduced till the middle 1970’s, and as the following article explains, the equipment used in 1976 speed-tests in Australia was perhaps more accurate than present day equipment (although the results were not instantanous).

Long story short, on record, Jeff Thomson has bowled faster deliveries than Shoaib and with far more accuracy. In 1976 speed-tests he bowled at 99.8 mph (160.57 kph). From CricInfo](http://www.cricket.org/link_to_database/STATS/FC/BOWLING/BOWLING_SPEEDS.html)

o great wise pristine thanks for that valuable information

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/tongue.gif

so u r trying to say that the equipment that measured shoaib’s ball at 159.5 (159.6 as reported by some sources) was actually not accurate and he might have actually been faster than that…

let us know that jeff thompson’s 99.8 mph was NOT during a match…

and what makes Shoaib the fastest bowler is not ONE delivery but it is the fact that he bowls consistently at the same speed (i.e. > 90 mph)…

we’ve seen other bowlers who can reache speeds of above 90 but with shoaib its almost all his deliveries r fast…

Speed doesn’t make anyone a greater bowler. Shoaib should concentrate more on length rather than making a record. If he made his bowling length, he could break the record

Speed does make a difference. I remember once Rameez made a comment that during world cup 92, when Wasim was bowling too many no balls & wides, the team management thought that Wasim should cut down his pace and concentrate on line & length. But later on, they decided that Wasim should bowl with his full pace. So by the end of the tournment, Wasim had most no-balls in the tournment, but he was very successful in taking wickets.

And BTW in this tournment, Shoaib is varying his pace, bowling good slower balls.

The team management = Manager and newspaper critics

They = Imran Khan, and he was enough to overrule the entire cricket board, if it were to come to that.

Speed is important, as you can beat the batsman in the air, but accuracy is even more important, and variation will get you more wickets.

armughal, I never said JT bowled with that speed in a match. It was in test conducted specifically to measure speed. And I never said that current day's equipment are measuring slower balls. Do you routinely make up things in your mind just to prove a point or do you actually read what the other person wrote? And there are a large number of bowlers who bowl >90mph, if you care to look up the link I provided above. And try not to make up things or put words in other people's mouth, its bad manners and just goes to show that your argument is probably weak for you to resort to such tactics. As I said earlier, Shoaib is certainly fast, but more than that I don't particularly like to spend time on him, as in my personal opinion he is no way near any of the truly great fast bowlers. Fast bowling is not just about speed.

accha yaar tum log to aik dum serious ho jaate ho....
i just said that Shoaib Akhtar is the fastest bowler....
u dont want to agree its up to u....
but why deny the facts....

and yes i have seen the list but have u ever seen the matches and seen any bowler who bowls consistently in the 90s????

I may have agree with you. But I mostly prefer length. You are right. Shoaib’s performance was great in this tournament.

Those who say that Shoiab should cut down his pace, should read this comment from Jeff Thompson:

Thomson felt Shoaib should not cut down his speed. "You never give away your advantage by slowing down your pace. His advantage is his speed and he shouldn’t give it up. "He might not always get wickets but may help his partner to pick wickets from the other end. And that’s how things work at times. “If he is quicker than others, he has to use that.”

now he has reached within just 0.6 mph of the 100 mph mark…
if he crosses that mark, i think he’ll get a big morale booster…
and with his current form, he might just be the shoaib akhtar we all wanted him to be…

6/16 is very impressive…
very very impressive…
