This time Jirga gets attacked in Orakzai agency killing 16 and injuring 40 people. People gathered to make sure these talibs are kicked out of tribal areas.
Extremely sad that so many innocent people have died but also good to see tribals waking up to tackle these retads, it’s about time we fix this problem ourself otherwise Americans get an excuse to kill innocent people.

At least 15 people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a meeting of tribal elders in a restive region of Pakistan near the Afghan border.
Dozens were injured in the blast at a council of local leaders in the Orakzai district, one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal regions.
They were meeting to raise a militia to evict Taleban from the region when the attack took place.
Orakzai, near the main north-west city of Peshawar, has been relatively calm.
“We were busy in raising a lashkar [tribal militia] to evict Taleban from the region when this attack took place,” Qeemat Khan Orakzai, a member of the council, told Reuters news agency.
The BBC’s Shoaib Hasan, in Pakistan, says the suicide bomber walked into the meeting of 600 people and blew himself up.
A security official told AFP news agency that the suicide attack came a day after armed tribesmen had targeted two militant hideouts.

Internal security has completely collapsed inside Pakistan. It is in a state of pure anarchy. Worse then Zimbabwe.

This is truly horrible. Terrorist would go to any length to kill and maim innocent civilians.
This is also a reminder that terrorists cannot be defeated by Jirga-bazi. Jirga is outdated, and so is the whole tribal system.
You cannot use bullock carts on super highways, and similarly you cannot use old tribal systems in a modern world. Just like bullock cards would create a huge mess on a super highway, the tribal system is creating a huge mess in Pakistan.
By the way we should not be surprised to see the failure of Jirga and other tribal systems. Next door neighbor aka Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan has been trying to keep primitive tribal system alive, and look what they got in return.
Same thing is true for many other tribal societies. They cannot cope with modern challenges.
Coming back to the FATA area. We the Pakistanis are equally responsible for this mess. For sixty odd years we let the primitive tribals to remain so, without ever thinking that at some later stage the whole thing is going to come back and bite our big behinds.
Hindsight is always 20/20. Let's learn our lessons and take care of our future. Our future doesn't belong to primitive uncouth tribalism. The things that worked centuries ago must be evaluated for their applicability. And most likely the old stuff really belongs to the museums and not on the city streets.
We don't use donkeys to go to Saudi, then why we insist that jirga system must be used in 21st century?
FCR must go and so should all the political agents, Maliks, and Khans. FATA needs modern court system, a police system, and a set of business rules. Anyone who wants to fight for Pakistan must wear a proper uniform. We must not allow plain shalwar kameez wearing AK-47 toating tribals to defend us. This is cowardly on our part to use civilians for waging battles against hardened Talibans. Only a properly trained military force can deal with Taliban. Let's quit dreaming about tribal lashkars' value in this war.
While we are at it, we must improve infrastructure in FATA in particular and Frontier in general. These areas should be open for "real" and lawful business.
Do you ever wonder why a FATA resident can show up in Karachi and do whatever business he likes. But a Karachi-walah dare not show up in Miran Shah and open up business or buy property.

In 1947 there may have been a tacit acceptance of tribalism.

I agree that we need to bring them into mainstream but we can't do that one-sidedly deciding on our own that this is what they need. They also need to realize/accept this and let Pakistan take full charge of their areas.

Then hill by hill, valley by valley, town by town, and agency by agency FATA has to be brought to civilian control.

We need to seal border with Afghanistan and anyone in the forbidden zone to be shot/bombed at sight would work wonders. Militancy may not go down immediately but will definitely choke supply lines of the militants. As next step after sealing border with Afghanistan we'll need to protect militants infiltration to other parts of Pakistan.

^ This thread should be enough proof for those who doubt the resolve of FATA in countering the terrorist threat.
Folks don't realize that the presence of the extremist groups is a threat to the tribal society. Furthermore, let us not forget that when Pakistani soil was being violated it was the tribals that stood up for Pakistan.
We all know that its not whole population of FATA that is supporting militancy against Pakistan, its just a handful of extremists just like there are terror supporting elements in all political parties (MQM, JI etc.), just because of statements from such people should not discourage rest of population.

The often ramshackle forces lend force to the campaign in the lawless and mountainous region, but analysts question their effectiveness against a well-armed, well-trained and increasingly brutal insurgency.
The extremists are increasingly targeting the militias, an indication they believe them to be a threat.
On Sunday, two tribesman were killed during an army-backed offensive against insurgents in the Bajur tribal region. Government official Jamil Khan said helicopter gunships shelled militants’ bunkers, killing at least 10 people. Fifteen more suspected militants were killed in separate clashes, he said.
On Friday, a suicide bomber killed more than 50 tribesman gathering to form an army. Eight pro-government tribesmen have been beheaded in recent days.
By encouraging the private armies, or “lashkars,” the government is exploiting local resentment against foreign and Pakistani extremists in the area, considered a likely hiding place for Osama bin Laden and other al-Qaida leaders.
"These Taliban call themselves Muslims, but they have been involved in all kinds of crimes," said Malik Mohmmand Habib, a leader of the Salarzai tribe, one of the largest of at least five tribes who have formed lashkars in recent weeks. “We want them out of our area.”
Habib claims up to 15,000 men in his lashkar. Similar figures have been given by other leaders of private armies but those claims could not be independently verified. Analysts caution tribesman are likely exaggerating, perhaps by as much as 50 percent.
The lashkars have drawn comparisons with government-backed militia in Iraq — the so-called awakening councils — that have been credited with beating back the insurgency there.
