**Reports that riot police arrested 15 people ahead of England’s friendly with the Netherlands are being investigated by the UK Foreign Office.**Violent clashes between football fans were reported in Amsterdam city centre on Wednesday.
The Foreign Office said police were reported to have intervened to stop a fight between rival supporters.
One eyewitness said police on horseback contained a group of England fans in Amsterdam’s central Dam Square.
Fifteen arrests were made but there were no reports of serious injuries, a Dutch police spokesman told Associated Press.
The news agency said police were searching all the supporters for weapons and they were photographed and filmed before being released.
Several British police were also present on the square to assist, it added.
It remains unclear whether the fighting before the match involved supporters of the international teams or fans of Dutch clubs.
