14 year old boy died on Thursday, November 11th, after having received 85 lashes; according to the ruling of the Mullah judge of the public circuit court in the town of Sanandadj he was guilty of breaking his fast during the month of Ramadan.
The Kurdish site Rojeh´heh Lât reports that the young man´s identity has not been disclosed. He was scheduled for burial on Saturday, November 13th (after 3 days at the local morgue), in the cemetery of Beheshteh Mohammadi in Sanandadj. However due to the public´s realization of the events surrounding the boy´s circumstances the cemetery was stormed [in protest] and his burial did not take place.
According to informed sources, supervisors have instructed that the burial take place in the presence of his closest relatives, surveyed by security forces.
Now, breaking the fast, does this fall under gunnah or crime ?
Totalitarian adj 1: characterized by a government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control; "a totalitarian regime crushes all autonomous institutions in its drive to seize the human soul"- Arthur M.Schlesinger, Jr. 2: of or relating to the principles of totalitarianism according to which the state regulates every realm of life; "totalitarian theory and practice"; "operating in a totalistic fashion"
and besides, there is no evidence that true islamic law punishes breaking fast with such measures. most of the pakistanis are sunnis so any islamic govt. will enforce sunni fiqh and thus we wont see these things inshallah.

Most probably it is a false news item. We can ignore the bloodshed of Iranian revolution when lacs of civilians, mostly innocents were killed for nothing but Islam.
Though such horrible incident can take place in an Islamic state. And we can discuss it at religious forum, will be more suitable.
FYI, iran is much better off after the revolution. At least it is independant whereas previously, it was totally like saudi, in the sense that the west were plundering irans wealth with the permission of shah, whilst the average person had no say and were rotting in poverty. Iran has recovered quite well considering its only been what 25 years? And is much stronger than most arab nations in the region, when it was them that assisted in crippeling iran not long ago.

well anjan i also did some search on internet and did not find any credible reference. I believe that if such a crime was committed in Iran for real, Western media would have made a big fuss about it.
Some guppies have pointed out to me that this thread is serving no particular purpose creating a false perception about Islam. Given that we do not have a credible reference to back up this news item, I have decided to close this thread for now. If some one finds a credible reference about this incidence, please PM me and I will open this thread for further discussion. Thanks
