We have a transit in Dubai for a total of 14 hours.Excluding the time we will need to get out of the airport and check into a hotel, and then the few hours we will have to be at the airport before our next flight,I am thinking we might have 8-9 hours to spare.
What are some attractions worth visiting and manageable in this time?We will have a 21 month old child with us as well.
Also what kind of weather is expected there in the third week of January??
^^I don't know why. This is how the flights were.We did not make a special request or anything. When we found out that this is how it was gonna be we thought it will be a nice thing to explore the city a lil bit...:)

oh ok...yeah, you can enjoy a day if you can get visa to enter the city. i think there are guided day tours by bus are available for $57 for half the day and $97 for the whole day tours.
ok...but, i'm curious to know why you have such a loooonnnnng layover in Dubai...usually, it's usually no more than a few hours.
It's just the way it is. I've just been looking at Emirates flights for my mum and outward bound there are short stopovers (only an hour and a half or two) but on the way back the shortest I could find was seven hours and many are around twelve to fourteen..

**may be to/from the UK. it's usually a few hours to/from North America. It's because i think most flights leave late evenings from the Middle East for the sub-continent. it makes perfect connection from across the Atlantic because flights arrive in the early evenings in the Middle East.
i think if one can get a transit visa in Dubai, sightseeing is the best way to spend the time. :)**
KKF…This flight is coming back to USA.Someone I know traveled the same route earlier this year and they had a similar transit.I guess it is just the way the flight schedule is.
Now back to telling me more about what to do in Dubai in a few hours…
my bhabi just went bck 2 paki she was coming from australia via emirates she also has transit visa so the air port authorities vl drop u 2 grand millenium hotel all of there transit passengers stay there from there u can go anywhere they vl give u coupons to eat whatever in the hotel they vl tell u time 2 drop u agin 2 air port its on u u want 2 go through their buses or urself so if u r tired u can take rest also from the hotel have got their own taxi pay n use them metro is also there but its far away from hotel n do visit duabi mall its beautiful :)
Devilish...Yup that is what I have heard too.Their own buses I think just give the option of a city tour or safari or a dinner cruise. We are more interested in looking around the city rather than the dinner cruise or shopping, due to lack of time.
I still need to do some homework regarding what to do in Dubai..!
Iconoclast...14 hours seems to be a bit too long to rest and I don't think we will be too tired in the morning, after a few hour long flight from Lahore to Dubai. But will make sure not to exhaust ourselves.
Gina...We will be staying at the Millennium hotel/Copthorne hotel. Will we be able to get on that bus from there...??...How far is Dubai mall from there...??
