13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

Why do you think UK and USA along with Newzealand and Hungary have the highest teenage pregnancy and abortion rate?

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

I don't know about other countries but in US I feel

  1. Children are exposed to sexuality way earlier in life

  2. Instead of promoting abstinence, the country promotes birth control.

  3. Media and Films like Knocked up, Juno and even Sarah Palin clearly sent out a message that it's okay to have teenage pregnancies

  4. Parents have lost all control in their household. Parents allow children to make their own decisions

just to name a few...

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

^Good points njgal…another point comes to my mind is “exposure to sex images through media and consumerism”. I found this article quite intereting regarding this issue.

The chief consumer watchdog has condemned the sexualisation of young girls, warning it triggers ‘emotional distress, anxiety, low self-esteem and eating disorders’.

Ed Mayo made his remarks amid mounting alarm that childhood innocence is being lost in the chase for sales and cash by big business.

He also revealed that W H Smith is to stop selling Playboy-themed merchandise for schoolgirls.

Mr Mayo, chief executive of Consumer Focus, has been lobbying store bosses to drop their links to the porn company.

He said the sale of pink pencil cases and folders with Playboy’s bunny logo has been part of a far wider problem.

‘Children’s products, such as the Playboy range, help to make sex and pornography normal,’ he said.

'The bombardment of sexual imagery that children do not understand can be off-putting and scary.

'This is a clear case of too much, too young. The effects of early sexualisation for girls include emotional distress, anxiety, low self-esteem, eating disorders, disrupted school life and depression.

‘Boys who are affected end up with an image of girls as sexual objects, which can jeopardise their ability to form and maintain intimate relationships.’

Mr Mayo’s comments echo previous statements from the Prime Minister and the Conservative leader David Cameron.

Last week, the Good Childhood report for the Children’s Society also warned of the dangers of the sexualisation of children, including high levels of teen pregnancy.

Mr Mayo’s research found that children are targeted through clothes and fashion before they reach school age with, for example, birthday fashion parties and photo- shoots for four-year-olds.

‘T-shirts include slogans such as “sex kitten” and “flirt!” for girls as young as six,’ he said.

The consumer champion also attacked the magazines which are designed to appeal to young girls.

‘Magazine websites like Sugar, Mizz and Blizz have been caught running modelling competitions, and online “rate my body” contests for girls from age 13 to 14,’ he said.

Mr Mayo added that exposure to sexual images comes mainly from mainstream advertising, where up to half of women shown are partly dressed or undressed.

The Daily Mail highlighted how W H Smith was selling Playboy-themed products for children in 2005.

Mr Mayo, co-author of Consumer Kids: How Big Business is Grooming our Children for Profit, said: ‘That always sat uneasily with W H Smith’s reputation as a family-friendly chain.’

The retailer insisted it has axed the items for commercial reasons.

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

Yeah saw it on the news here.. I was juz.. speechless..

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

Hareem, I think you are most on target here. Kids are aware of sexuality from very young ages no matter what country they live in. How they handle that knowledge is quite different from culture to culture, country to country.

We have Hannah Montana, Britney Spears, Madonna. Super-models who weigh 80 pounds. Broadcast TV programs that should be classified almost as porn. Have you watched "MTV" lately? O.M.G.

Far more than anything else, I think its broadcast media and the "heros" of our children that creates and worsens this problem. When you have 2nd graders who want to dress, act and look like Britney, you're in big trouble.

I see nothing wrong with promoting abstinence while teaching the basics of sex ed. Kids need to know that sexual activity can be deadly. But I dont think that sex-ed causes more sexual activity. Its more that they want to be like their heros.

We need to bring back more media like the mickey mouse club - more wholesome and innocence, allow them that instead of tempting them to look like a centerfold before they even reach teen years.

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

I actually think the UK is worse than the US when it comes to the sexualisation of young people, we have topless women in family newspapers such as 'The Sun.' I mean if a kid can look at a woman's boobs at age 10/11/12 of course he is going to go to school and start thinking of girls that way. I'm a very liberal person but when it comes to stuff like this I think it's shocking that there are competitions like 'Page 3' idol and the whole culture around it is very misleading as well.

I know a lot of English girls who wanted to be 'glamour models' as they thought it was 'just a bit of fun' and 'good money.' The newspapers only pay £250 ('The Sun' pays that and that is the highest amount amongst all the papers) for a shoot (these girls often think they will get paid a couple of thousand before they get into the industry) whilst the actual paper makes God knows how much out of them. The vast majority of the girls end up work as escorts/'high class' prostitutes on the side to make extra cash (even some of the so-called 'big names') and still people keep perpetuating the myth that it's just 'harmless fun' and 'celebrating' a woman's beauty.

That little boy may not even be the father as 2 other boys have come forward and said they’ve also slept with the girl! It’s like something out of Jerry Springer. A DNA test is being done.

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

just one word astagfiruAllah!!

^^ omg thats just wrong.

It has been suggested that there are another six potential fathers
Alfie has said he wants to take a DNA test to prove that he is the child’s father.
Both Alfie and Chantelle’s parents are believed to have netted thousands of pounds in media deals so far.

But Mr Sim claims that Alfie is being ‘exploited’ by the families to make as much money as possible.

Both Richard Goodsell, 16, and 14-year-old Tyler Barker who live close to the Stedmans in Eastbourne, East Sussex, have claimed paternity.
Trainee chef Richard has said he had sex at least three times with Chantelle around the time she became pregnant.

'I know I could be the father, he said. ‘Everyone thinks I am. My friends all tell me that baby has my eyes - even my mum thinks so.’

Meanwhile, Tyler said: ‘I slept with Chantelle about nine months ago and I’m really worried I could be the father. I hope it’s not me. All my mates have been teasing me about it but this isn’t funny, it’s serious.’

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

What is wrong with kids these days, have they no sense of right and wrong, no morals and values to guide their behavior?? Its soo disturbing!!!

'T-shirts include slogans such as "sex kitten" and "flirt!" for girls as young as six,' he said.

[/QUOTE]

I hate hate HATE these....the t-shirts are bad enough, but the pants..the pants!! 6-year old girls walking around with the word juicy written on their butt...when I see a little girl walking about with that, it really breaks my heart...its soo sad, for the life of me I cannot understand how ANY parent would ever send their girl out into the world dressed like that......forget my original sentence of what is wrong with kids these days...what is wrong with parents these days!!!

sun? a family newspaper?
when exactly did this happen?

btw there is much more nudity in scandinavian countries..much much much more.

so its there that the theory fails.

Re: 13 years old father!!!Shocks Britain

yeh it's the parents. How can u nor know ur 13 yr old boy and 15 yr old girl are whereever they are. The only time kids should be out alone are for school and daycare. Parents like these should honestly be arrested. There is something seriously wrong with u as parents if ur lil kids are having kids.

I didn't say nudity in the printed media was the only reason. I was simply putting forward an opinion as to what one of the contributing factors could be and comparing the UK to the US (not Europe) . Yes, there is more nudity in Scandinavia and also certain other countries like Germany but they also have different policies regarding sex ed, underage contraception, binge drinking (which has shown to be a factor in regards to unprotected sex) etc. etc.

Regarding the first point, 'The Sun' isn't sold on the top shelf, is it? Anyone can go into a newsagent and buy it. It also explicitly describes itself as a 'family newspaper.' I don't want to link to the actual page where it calls itself that as it shows nude photos of Heather Mills but if u want to dispute that point further just google 'sun family paper heather mills' or something. Fair enough u don't agree with that definition but doesn't stop the paper labelling itself as that.

The parents of both of them didn’t seem too bothered about what they were upto.

The boy Alfie’s mother is due in Court on 24 February ‘for failing to send a child to school.’ The Dad dumped the family for a 19-year-old friend of his stepdaughter. He has 7 kids and 3 step kids. U could not make this stuff up.

The girl Chantelle’s mother used to let boys stay overnight (not just this particular one) with her daughter at their house.

'**Chantelle and Maisie (the baby) were released from hospital yesterday. They are living with Penny, Chantelle’s jobless dad Steve, 43, and her five brothers in a rented council house in Eastbourne. The family live on benefits. Alfie, who lives on an estate across town with mum Nicola, 43, spends most of his time at the Steadmans’ house.

** He is allowed to stay overnight and even has a school uniform there so he can go straight to his classes in the morning.’
