13-year-old suicide bomber sole casualty in Mohmand blast

GHALANAI: A 13-year-old suicide bomber blew himself up, killing no one but himself in the process, while security personnel shot and killed one of his colleagues in Mohmand Agency on Tuesday morning.

“One suicide bomber blew himself up at the Frontier Constabulary (FC)’s Khapakh post in Mohmand Agency at 10.30am,” said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Security officials at the post and civilians in the vicinity remained unhurt in the bungled attack, whilst paramilitary troops shot and killed one of the suicide bombers’ colleagues and arrested another, the statement added.

Witnesses and officials said the three would-be assailants, including the teenage bomber, arrived in a Land Cruiser from the Khwezai area.

FC troops flagged down their vehicle for a routine search. As two of the three passengers stepped out of the vehicle, the teenager in the car detonated the explosives strapped to his body, they said.

Troops captured one of the passengers and shot the other as he tried to flee, they added.

Officials said one of the assailants had been identified as a Swabi resident, Nadir, son of Musafir, while the other two hailed from Waziristan.

Doctors at Ghalanai Hospital, where the two dead bodies were taken, said the suicide bomber was a 13-year-old boy. The arrested person has been shifted to Peshawar, officials said.

Really sad and horrible. I was visiting a doctor (Chinese) yesterday and he mentioned that before Benazir's successful murder attempt there was another attempt when someone handed over a baby strapped with bombs for Benazir to hold but it didn't materialize, I never heard about this one when I was in Pakistan... anyone knows about it or was it a rumour spread out in western outlets?

WASHINGTON: Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has said that the bomb attack on her homecoming procession was carried out by a man who was holding up a baby who was rigged up with explosives and whom he wanted her to hold.

Had she just at that moment not bent to loosen her shoes because of her swollen feet, she would have been dead, Benazir told the Washington Times.

Benazir was worried: According to the account published in the newspaper on Friday, a man approached her armoured truck, trying to hand across a small child. She gestured for the man to come closer. The child was about one or two. The man who was carrying it, kept trying to hand it to people to hand it to her. “I’m a mother, I love babies, but the (street lights) had already gone out, and I was worried about the baby getting dropped or hurt,” she said.

“The baby, the bomb, it went off only feet from me; there was nothing between us but the wall of the truck. We were rocking from side to side, this huge truck. We saw the bodies, the blood everywhere; we saw the carnage. Some bodies were naked, with their clothes burned off,” she added.

Lucky BB: Of her husband, Benazir said, “People say he is a liability, but they hit me by getting at him. I am very proud that he has stood by me; he stood his ground. He is a proud man, and he was humiliated. … I don’t consider him a liability. I always think, what if he was not as brave as he turned out to be? What if he had listened to the army and divorced me? He could have chosen his business, you know. But he has paid a lot politically and personally. I am very lucky to have him. I think that people respect that he has stayed with me. If he had left, it would have been even worse.”

Offcourse Benazir Bhutto is lying here. She was well inside the truck. How could she signal someone to bring the baby to her from inside her heavily armored truck?

Terrorists come in all sizes... This one is better of dead. I have no sympathies for such individuals. Had he been succesful, he would have killed innocent people and destroyed entire families.

You are right that terrorists come in all sizes ... and no one can justify his (13 years) action. Issue is this that how terrorists brain wash people of every age. Kids are innocent, they can easily be targeted and used as suicide bomb blasters.

Brainwashing seems to also work as well on grown adults as on kids, since many of these terrorists happen to be well into adulthood.
