I was in central Punjab in far flung areas such as Shorkot etc. for last few days… heat is unbreable these days.. govt. officials I met were furious about the forced rally in Islamabd on 12th… in such heat they were given task to arrange a set no. of buses loaded with people and travel 8-10 hours to islmabad and then back! Goct officials were forcing lower staff to go with them in these trying conditions..
Re: Forced Rally in Islamabd
that isnt surprising. the govt. has wants us to pay taxes..and then carries out these stunts. it wants us to save electricity and the lights where the non-functional dictator is to make a speech were turned on till 11 AM and had been running for the past three nights.
Re: 12 May - Rally in Islamabad

60,000 head for Islamabad rally today
A caravan of more than 60,000 PML workers from Lahore will join today’s rally under the supervision of Lahore PML president Mian Muhammad Munir via Motorway, said Punjab PML secretary general Chaudhry Zaheer Uddin on Friday.
He said the PML had finalised its arrangements for today’s Estehkam-e-Pakistan Rally in Islamabad to show solidarity with President General Pervaiz Musharraf.
He said more than 500,000 workers from all over the four provinces would participate in the rally to give a warm welcome to the president.
He said more than 100,000 buses, cars and wagons from the Punjab would reach Islamabad under the supervision of the National Assembly members and party leaders. He said the rally would be a gathering of the PML workers. He said government servants were not being compelled to join the rally.
Information Technology minister Abdul Aleem Khan and Gulberg Town nazim Faraz Chaudhry have made special arrangements to carry workers in air-conditioned buses. The workers would be served breakfast at Ghari Shahu at 7:30am. Moonis Elahi, son of CM Pervaiz Elahi, will also lead a rally from Liberty Chowk, Gulberg, to Islamabad.
All workers who have registered their names for participation in the rally have been directed to collect stickers, posters, banners and party flags from their concerned UC-nazim’s offices.
Food and medical treatment to the party workers would also be provided, Mian Munir said. He said a team of doctors carrying life saving drugs would travel along with the caravan.
He said the PML district presidents, parliamentarians and office bearers had contributed for the rally expenditures.
Punjab PML senior vice president Arshad Khan Lodhi said the PML workers from 2,500 union councils of the Punjab would gather in Islamabad. He said the May 12 rally would prove to be a referendum in favour of General Musharraf. He said the rally would play a decisive role in the success of PML in the upcoming elections.

Musharraf to address first public meeting in Islamabad today
ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf will address his first public meeting in Islamabad today (Saturday) as the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) claimed that it would gather 300,000 workers in the capital to show solidarity with Musharraf.
A PML leader, asking not to be named, told Daily Times that the party had told its ministers, MNAs, MPAs and office-bearers that their political future depended on the success of Musharraf’s public meeting. The government machinery especially the administrations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are making all possible efforts to facilitate the PML in arrangements for the public meeting.
The PML leadership has asked party leaders to bring maximum people from their constituencies in close coordination with district and tehsil nazims. The party leaders belonging to the adjoining districts of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal have been ordered to bring 40,000 to 50,000 participants each, while the leaders of areas next to these districts have been tasked to bring 20,000 to 25,000 participants each. Leaders of other districts have been directed to bring 10,000 participants each and the party office-bearers have been asked to bear all the expenses.
A source told Daily Times that all cabinet members from Punjab had given Rs 500,000 for arrangements of the public meeting. The source said that the PML had hired thousands of vehicles for pick and drop of the participants.
A 20-metre stage has been set up in front of the presidency with seating arrangement for only four persons – President Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, PML President Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi.
These leaders will be the main speakers of the rally while rest of the party leaders and workers will stand at the venue starting from the Parade Avenue to China Chowk. The scheduled time of the meeting is 3pm.
Online reported that the Islamabad administration had temporarily relaxed Section 144 in the capital for Saturday.

"Dysfunctional Dictator"
I like the term. Musharraf has really never fully functioned as a true dictator, that perhaps does make him a dysfunctional dictator. :D
Re: 12 May - Rally in Islamabad
actually someone else coined this term on this forum. i read it some days back and I added it to my vocab. gotta give credit..pretty funny.

Sure, kicking out an elected govt in a coup, closing media outlets and having his opponents 'disappear', forcing people to attend his rally, the list goes on..... at what point he acts like a dictator for you, God knows...

LONG LIVE MUSHARRAF
All of you who dont live in Pakistan and use negitive tonuge about musharraf tell me how is it possible to bring almost 100,000 (if not more) poeple for a rally unless they are willing to come on their own wish? He is still far most appriciated leader of pakistan then any one else at the moment!!

PML ‘hires’ masses for Islamabad assembly
By Our Correspondent
TAXILA, May 12: Contrary to the official claims, state machinery and political influence was used in Taxila, Wah Cantonment and Hassanabdal to take maximum number of people to the pro-Musharraf rally held in Islamabad on Saturday.
From Taxila a caravan of more than7,000 people travelling in some 3,000 vehicles left for the federal capital to participate in the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) rally.
Hassanabdal Tehsil Nazim Shafqat Khan also led a rally of some 5,000 people in over 1,500 vehicles to Islamabad.
Sources told this reporter that each union council nazim was tasked with ensuring the participation of at least 300 supporters.
It is important to mention here that attendance of low- ranking officials of the district government, tehsil administration, and other departments was taken to ensure their presence in the assembly.
A revenue department official identified as Ghulam Hussain caught the attention of local mediapersons while doing the same at the Burhan interchange on the Islamabad-Peshawar motorway.
It was also learnt that officials of the revenue department took roll-call of the “hired participants” so that payment could be made to them later on.
Due to little response from the public, scores of labourers in Taxila and Hassanabdal were taken to Islamabad posing them as PML supporters, the sources said.
Some participants in Hassanabdal told this correspondent that they were daily-wage workers and their services had been hired at Rs100 per person. There were also reports of people being offered Rs300 for their travel to the federal capital.
Moreover, Saturday was another day of ordeals for commuters of Taxila, Wah and Hassanabdal due to the unavailability of public transport.
Hundreds of people, including women, children and patients, had to face hardship for the second consecutive day as the vehicles were “hired” to take the participants of the rally in the federal capital.
