ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (PNS) August 22, 2002 - In a freak Hindu Indian ritual at a temple 105 female children were burried alive shockingly while their parents and state Minister, C Durairaj, who was also the ‘chief guest’ looked on. The incident happened in Perayur Village 46 kilometers from Madurai, it was reported by Indian Express.
In this horrifying ordeal, the children were first burned alive to make them unconcious and then buried alive in a grave and fully covered for 60 seconds and then pulled out in an unconcious state. The ritual starts with family members sprinkle ash on child’s head and then turmeric water to make them fall unconcious. If for some reason child doesn’t fall unconcious then the parents are fined one thousand rupees. Once the child is unconcious, a yellow cloth is wrapped and the child is buried alive while parents break a coconut and offer prayers. The end of the prayers, the priest signals the grave to be dug and child taken out.
This Indian ritual is called “Kuzhi maatru thiruvizha” or the “festival of pits” is observed every five to seven years in India village Perayur apparently to propitiate two female deities. All villagers participate in this ritual in the hope 'burying their children alive will make their wishes come true.
C.Durairaj, Tamil Nadu’s minister for Housing and Urban Development, who was guest of honour at the ritual in Perayur, told The Indian Express: “I went there and witnessed the festival on the invitation of the community which organised it. I’ve nothing more to say.”
Only pre-pubescent girls are chosen for this ritual but there is no restriction for the boys. Children as young a four years old are chosen for burning and burrying alive in this bizzare Indian ritual.
Re: 105 Children burried alive in Freak Indian Ritual
yes its bizzare but this reporting is also bizzare or may be something wrong the way you choose the subject of post.
**
The end of the prayers, the priest signals the grave to be dug and child taken out **
It was done for 1 minute and till now no one had dies in 100 yrs of this stupid ritual.
I am not justifying doing it for even 1 minute and yes it is stupid.
But what is pathetic is the effort to distort fact.
Just shows the mentality of some people who thinks everything INDIAN is BAD.
check out the difference in the reports of Asim “ch*thiy@” Muhgal’s paknews, and the indian express, and you will know why this news doesnt merit a mention in CNN.
not only does the pakistani article not mention that the kids are buried for a nominal period of a minute, it also goes one step further and adds some of its own spicy stuff - kids were “burnt alive”, “buried alive”, etc.
The poor quality of the report is evident from the fact that the word “buried” and “burying” are misspelt as “burried” and “burrying” in it.

Ladies and gentleman (I hope this is spelt correctly :) ). As Queer points out, this incident did not take place, as certain words have not been spelt correctly.
Also, it is everyone’s figment of imagination that over two thousand Muslims had been burnt in Gujarat, as the reporter incorrectly spelt the Gujarat in his report. Also, there are no incidents of Sati because you people do not know how to spell pyre

unless paknews reporters and editors have serious trouble with their english and dont know the meaning of what it is to be "buried alive" or "burnt alive", the article qualifies as sensationalizing an inconsequential event (i can almost see Asim Mughal going - hey my wife burnt alive last night while cooking roti for me). it's understandale though - churning out propaganda when you cant even spell "propaganda" is real difficult work.
and as i said before, someone sure is ecstatic that his muslim bros were burnt alive in gujarat - its the perennial trump card for arguments against indians; even if it's about tribal rituals in tamil nadu. move on, dude. it doesnt even sound legitimate anymore.
