100 Tests for Inzi

**100 Tests for Inzamam

The tale of a giant**

January 1989 First big innings
Inzamam’s back-to-the-wall 201 not out for United Bank Limited in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on a greentop pushed him into the limelight. Haroon Rashid, the former Pakistan batsman and coach, considers it the best innings he has ever seen.

November 1991 One-day debut
Inzamam had to contend with a fiery line-up of Curtly Ambrose, Ian Bishop, Malcolm Marshall and Patrick Patterson on his international debut at Lahore. He managed 20 before being bowled by Marshall. The game turned out to be a thriller and ended in a tie.

March 1992 World Cup heroics
His rollicking 48 against South Africa ended when Jonty Rhodes defied all laws of gravity to run him out, but Inzamam made sure that he finished the World Cup with a mighty bang. His volcanic 60 at Auckland remains one of the great knocks in ODIs, as he and Javed Miandad surmounted a run-rate of over 8 per over. Later, his thrilling 42 in the final proved crucial in Pakistan’s dream triumph.

June 1992 Test debut
Not much batting for Inzamam in a high-scoring draw against England at Edgbaston.

May 1993 First Test century
Another high-scoring draw at Antigua but Inzamam managed to notch up his maiden Test century against West Indies, despite having to shepherd the tail for much of his innings.

February 1994 Matchwinning hundred at Wellington
Inzy played his part in a run-fest against New Zealand at Wellington, where Saeed Anwar and Saleem Malik also produced hundreds. Wasim Akram finished the job with a cracking seven-wicket haul and Pakistan claimed the series 2-0.

September 1994 Stars in cliffhanger
Not many nails were left at the end of this one as Inzamam and Mushtaq Ahmed engineered a minor miracle against Australia at Karachi. From 258 for 9, Pakistan managed to surmount the target of 315 and go one-up in the series. Ian Healy missed a stumping when three runs were needed and Pakistan prevailed in one of the closest finishes of all.

July 1996 148 and 70 at Lord’s
On the opening day of a series against England at Lord’s, Inzamam walked in at 12 for 2 and revived the innings before stamping his authority with a magnificent 148. He tightened the noose in the second innings with 76 more and Pakistan wrapped it up by a 164-run margin.

March 1999 The first Test double
Inzamam’s first Test double-hundred came in the final of the Asian Test Championship against Sri Lanka. Ijaz Ahmed joined in the run-glut and Pakistan sailed to the title.

November 1999 Only hundred against Australia
Inzamam’s only century against Australia came in a losing cause but it was made with the Hobart Test very much in the balance. Australia had managed only a slender lead and he consolidated Pakistan’s position with a controlled 118. It almost turned into a series-levelling knock until Justin Langer and Adam Gilchrist began their daylight robbery.

May 2001 Matchwinning 114 at Old Trafford
This was another series in the balance with Darren Gough, Andy Caddick and Matthew Hoggard swinging it on the first morning. Enter Inzy who responded with a rattling 114. A tenacious 85 in the second innings set the game up, as Saqlain Mushtaq and friends took eight wickets in the final session to seal the series-levelling win.

May 2002 Triple hundred at Lahore
The biggie. For nearly two days, New Zealand had no respite in the searing heat and were clobbered to all corners of the Gaddafi Stadium. Inzamam’s 329 was the second-highest score by a Pakistan batsman, behind Hanif Mohammad’s 337, and the tenth-highest score in Test history.

March 2003 A miserable World cup
Nineteen runs in six innings is all that Inzy could manage in Pakistan’s shambolic World Cup performance. Was one of the many who was dropped in the aftermath.

September 2003 The saviour at Multan
This was the match where Inzamam ensured against a humiliating result. Chasing 261 in the final Test at Multan, Pakistan were 205 for 8 and in danger of giving Bangladesh their first Test win. Inzamam would have none of it, however, and with sizeable help from Nos. 10 and 11, inched them past the line.

October 2003 Appointed captain
Just three matches after his comeback, Inzamam found himself in the hot seat. It turned into a tense Test and Pakistan required his calm presence on the final day to earn a nervy draw.

March 2004 A cracker at Karachi
In a coruscating display of mind-blowing strokeplay, Inzamam nearly made the impossible happen against India. No team had successfully chased down 350 in an ODI but his 122 off 102 balls was like a divine bolt that landed in Karachi. Pakistan fell just short but it was undoubtedly the innings of the series, maybe even the best of his career.

September 2004 Crosses 10000 runs in ODIs
He became only the second player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to pass 10000 runs in one-day cricket during Pakistan’s victory over India in the Champions Trophy last year.

Well done, Inzi. Hats off to the big guy.

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Yup, Inzi is perhaps the greatest batsman Pakistan has ever produced. If only he can overcome his weakness against slightly fuller, incoming deliveries!

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

:Salute: definitely one of Pakistan's greatest batsmen! May he cross the 100 Test matches mark with a victory!

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Thanks for sharing. I agree he has certainly earned the title of best Pakistani batsman ever. Like the former best, Miandad, his batting and confidence has won us many matches, specially the World Cup 1992 :)

I wish he will play till 2007 World Cup.

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

I hope he does'nt repeat his 2003 WC performance in the 2007.....

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Its a pleasure to watch him in full form and flow. The Greatest of the Pakistani brave! No doubt.

:clap::clap: Congratulations Inzimam :jhanda:

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Yeah what the hell happened to him in 2003? 19 runs in 6 innings?

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Inzi has been brilliant for Pakistan. He should go for 250 in this thrid test against India. Go Inzi Go..

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

inzy deserves ---->> :Salute:

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

What are you people smoking, Inzi in his wildest dreams would not be in the same league as Miandad, let alone greater then him.....

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

^Inzi is a great batsman. He would definitly play on my all time Pak 11 and he is by far the best of this generation. But he is certainly not better than Miandad. Miandad is one of histories great clutch batsmen and for me ranks alongside all time greats in cricket.

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Perhaps this article on CricInfo by Osama Samiuddin says it all about Inzi.
http://usa.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2005/MAR/213097_PAK_23MAR2005.html

I agree that he isn’t close to the likes of Javed but is certainly in the top 5 batsmen to be ever produced by Pakistan.

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Man you’re suffering with Karachi-monia very badly. Miandad was certainly the best batsman of Pakistan. But the fact is that Inzimam is taking away records from him, one after another. Can’t a new guy be superior than the legend from history? What if Inzimam puts 11K Test and 14K ODI runs, will he still be deserved to be below Miandad class.

I can’t get this Karachi-pana of my fellow citimen. We need to see everything in big picture brother.

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

yehi tou problem hai, STOP living in the past, as of today Inzi is one of the best batsman in the world, cant you appreciate that fact.

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

First thing he and you should do, would be to get Inzi to average 50 in his career at least once…Miandad is the only batsman in the history of Test Cricket other then Herbert Sutcliffe of England, who had a brief career in comparison, whose average never dropped below 50 throughout his career…All those numbers (11K/14K) are relative and when you have sides like Zims and Bangers to play against…the performances of Inzi and his contemporaries whom Inzi does not compare favorably either, pale in comparison to the greats of the past, who played against quality sides…Miandad played in the golden era of fast bowling…and still performed…Miandad’s attitude and never say die motto as well as performing when the chips were down have no equal in the history of cricket and this demeanor alone is sufficient enough to put him in a category a few notches above Inzi…As Aamir Sohail pointed out the other day in response to Manjreker belittling Miandad’s 100 in his 100th test by say…“Richards did not say I would chose Miandad to bat if my life was on the line for nothing”…

There are numerous other records of Miandad which Inzi have yet to break and there is little chance that he ever would…like his 6 double centuries…

The fact of the matter is who ever thinks Inzi is a greater batsmen then Miandad knows little about cricket and more importantly let their ethnic affinities dictate their analysis of cricketing skills and legacies…I can’t get the chopaya-pun out of certain people either…

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

inzi is a great batsmen...but no where near close to Javed Miandad...Miandad is a legend...he was the greatest batsmen that pakistan ever produced...

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

CheG, your analysis is valid from your point of view and mine reflecting the history being rewritten by Inzi. And to answer your ethnic concern, I am from the same city as you, but I am not biased as I see most of my fellow citimen. :) And I am proud of it. Its the game of cricket and it has to be played by the best, regardless of their background. Your previous biased posts regarding karachi/punjab favouritism were full of hatered and that makes other readers smell the same in almost every post of yours.

Be cool!

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

biased???? Dude you have to be delusional to the nth degree to think there is no favortisim and bias in favor of Punjab cricketers in Paksitan......

Re: 100 Tests for Inzi

Lets not derail the thread.

This thread is about Inzi and not about Miandad. Dont compare the two and discussion will remain on track.

Re topic of the thread: Inzimam has been a cornerstone of pakistan batting in last decade or so and shall continue to remain one for another two years at least. Great performer and the fact that most of his centuries resulted in pakistan victory says it all. :k:
