100 suicides a year: Indian COAS

This was not surprising to read, as we keep getting news of cases here and there, but from a military analysis point of view, it’s quite strange and a rather large figure for any army big or small.

Almost 100 Indian soldiers are committing suicide every year and are mainly those deployed in occupied Kashmir and the north-eastern states, according to India’s army chief.

Dozens of soldiers, including officers, have also been killed by their colleagues in held Kashmir. Early this week a soldier shot dead an officer at an army camp in Srinagar in the fourth such incident in little more than a week.

** “On average we have been having about 100 suicide cases a year in the past four to five years, so this year has been (the) same,” Gen J.J. Singh said in Srinagar on Friday.
**
Indian authorities say they have introduced yoga for soldiers and officers to reduce stress. Gen Singh said counselling was also being provided.

Re: 100 suicides a year: Indian COAS

I want to know what is the cause of the stress for these soldiers deployed in IOK?

We have our soldiers deployed in our part of Kashmir as well like in those extreme environmental conditions like siachen, gilgit, skardu etc, and they dont suffer from stress.

Well, as far as I know Pakistani soldiers aren’t involved in combat very often in those areas. However, Indian troops are under constant attack from militants and because of this, a lot of them are put under stress.

Is this how Indian soldiers lay down their lives for their country?
