Re: 10-Year-Old Raped by Mullah; Family Considers Killing Her to Restore Their Honor
I’m talking about Afghanistan and South Asian countries here not the US. Most of these areas don’t even allow girls to be educated or marry them off very young so you can’t compare the culture in the West to that of these areas. Rape is also viewed differently, it’s not really seen as something to hide or a cause of dishonour in the West while in most South Asian communities it is and most victims choose not to come forward.
You’re not really understanding what I’ve said. And the intermingling part you wrote, I didn’t understand as you’ve contradicted yourself. I’m not saying rape doesn’t occur in the West but what I’m saying is in many cases like this authority figures use their position to victimize innocent people. It happens in the West too but in the West you still have most rapists getting severely punished and the girl who has been raped doesn’t fall victim to “honour killings/disowned by family/risk being unmarried for her life/exiled by the community”. If a women’s rights organization in the West tried to bring to light a case like this they would most probably not be faced with death threats from so-called mullahs or other groups as the video states. That’s where I had brought up religion being intertwined with culture because most people are afraid to even question these so-called mullahs out of fear as appearing that they are questioning their faith. That’s why many of them get away with heinous crimes.
I’m in no way advocating that Islam allows this, just pointing out that people like this misuse religion and use it in a way that if you question them it’s equal to committing blasphemy.
