While talking about Pakistan, my boss once said: “Sal, I like Middle Eastern food a lot.”
I replied, but Pakistan is not in the Middle East. It is in South Asia.
He said, yeah yeah, I know.

I think Westerners use ‘Middle East’ as a politically correct way of saying ‘Muslim’.

One thing I forgot to add here. Relation of that post to the topic.

My boss knew perfectly well that I am from Pakistan. And yet he brought up this Middle East stuff. I found it offensive because Americans tend to identify Pakistan as a middle eastern country, and Middle East in their eyes is a violent, backward place.

So Westerners, please keep Pakistan a South Asian country. Thanks.
