I guess this is the price we pay for governance. Such expenditures are unavoidable in almost all countries. It is easy for us to say 'oh, if they are good/ uncorrupt, who would want to get rid of them'. The truth is, there are enough madmen/ zealots around who would think otherwise. Was not Gandhi considered a man of the masses before he was assasinated?
I am also sure that we would be the first one to say, if god forbid, somebody is assasinated, "how can a government which cannot protect a vip protect the common people?"
Of course, are there cheaper options? Can the cars be bullet proof xxxxs rather than bullet proof mercs?
