10 minute daal?!

Is it really possible to make daal in only 10 minutes if it hasnt’ been soaked and isn’t made in a pressure cooker?

my MIL made the yummiest daal the other day and she says it took only 10 minutes.

She was very vague with her recipe…so can anyone give me a good recipe for paani wali daal?

Re: 10 minute daal?!

10 minutes seems like a difficult thing to achieve :hmmm:

Khair , i once saw a lady cook daal in an emergency .. she boiled up water in the kettle , then poured it in the pot, added unsoaked daal to it ,salt , chilli powder and all the spices in … Then she covered the lid with a slightly wet kapra and put it on the pot … Like how we dum rice … the fire was kept on high flame ..

Then 10 minutes later , in a frying fan , pour oil, then ginger and garlic paste and finally tomato paste .. cook for 5 minutes .. then add to the daal … then fry some onions and add zeera and green chillies and corriander … add to the daal … cook for another 5 minutes and daal should be done ..

All in all takes about 20-30 minutes

Re: 10 minute daal?!

sorry for going off topic but want to thanks cb for her bhindi recipe...cooked the very first dish all by myself and it came out great:)

Re: 10 minute daal?!

By paani wali daal do you mean patli daal? we have that everyday in our house.

If my mum is in a rush, she does half a cup of daal, 2 cups of water in the pressure cooker on a medium heat for 10 mins, she adds haldi, salt and chilli powder to this too.

Then once the daal has soaked up all the water she 'ghots' it until it becomes a bit paste like ( a corase paste) and then adds more water to make it patli, bring it to the boil, then adds a tarka of zeera or/and friend onions and chilli.

Re: 10 minute daal?!

Pressure cooker or sodium bicarbonate/baking soda/khanay ka soda/metha soda can do the trick.

Re: 10 minute daal?!

if it's been soaked. YESSS.

Re: 10 minute daal?!

revenge is the dish better served cold,

Re: 10 minute daal?!

it depends upon the quantity of daal, type of daal, and method ..

1/2 to 3/4 cup pre-soaked masoor or arhar in pressure cooker can be cooked in 10 min .. chana cannot
