I'm neither surprised nor shocked. This is just a face of nationalism where everything is driven out of the hatred twoards "Outsiders".
See everything started from Muslim Ban after 2016. Some protested but most stayed quite. Then this administration came after Latinos for the sake of wall. And then black people.
Now its students turn. And this will go on in all directions as long as trumptards are in power.
Chinese and Indians have the most students in US universities. Indian lobby has a lot of clout in this admin, so should do something about it.
International students are such a huge cash cow for Universities that I’m sure the Universities will find a way around. But it’s not just about money for the Universities. More importantly, a big chunk of STEM faculty at University level once were international students themselves. If the process is disturbed, the impact will not be seen immediately, though in 20 to 25 years down the road it will. It took centuries to build the best research infrastructure and I don’t think saner minds will allow it to be jeopardized.
Such a needlessly cruel regulation!
Just heard that NYU is offering a 1-credit in-person course so that foreign students can stay on campus.
This is the main reason why my university is doing a "hybrid" fall semester where some courses will be on campus and some online.
The US has now backtracked on this plan
