hi all,
what would u recommend, that costs 250$ max? Has good picture quality and lots of features. basically ‘the best digi cam for 250$ max’ and any particular online store u recommend in the U.S.
Canon PowerShot A70
I had the same camera on my mind too but it is priced at around $290. Where would u recommend i buy it from. And how about CanonA60.
Guys Canon A60 & A70 are both above his budget...keep in mind S&H and an extra compactflash card he'll need to buy!
lemme see if I can recommend any cam...I'll be back aight!
Okay here are some digicams I found in your price range. They have good ratings but I'm not really sure if these are the best cams you could get in their price range. I think Hammad or Faisal can advice you which one is better. Well here they are:
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P32
3.2 Megapixels - 3.2 X Optical Zoom - 3.2 X Digital Zoom - Memory Stick - Windows Millennium Edition - 1.6 in LCD Screen Size
Canon PowerShot A40
2.0 Megapixel - 3 X Optical Zoom - 2.5 X Digital Zoom - CompactFlash - 1.5 in LCD Screen Size
OLYMPUS D-520
-2.0 Megapixel - 3x Optical/2.5x Digital zoom
Please check Yahoo! Shopping for their prices.
Thanks for the suggestions CAangel.
I think the Canon A60 sells for almost the same price as Canon A40.
Anybody has experience with the other cameras that CA mentioned. Kindly post ur views reviews.
Awaiting replies from the experts.... Hammad, Faisal, HsKhan.
All of the above three are good quality cameras. To get 3.2MP with 3x optical zoom for less than $230 appears awesome. However, I think hskhan mentioned that he was not entirely happy with his Sony. Check with him. Else Olympus is always a safe bet, and Canon is pretty good too. All three are different shapes.
My advice will be to go to a store, and hold each of the cameras in your hand to find out which one feels better… and then buy that from Yahoo! Shopping. Some stores also match internet prices, and if they do, its better, cz then you can easily return it to the store, in case there is any problem (be wary of Best Buy cz they charge 15% restocking fee).
Second thing you can do is to check out steves-digicam and read the reviews for each of the three.
test it out. go to best buy or wherever you can get your selection and handle it yourself.. using the same battery source you will use.. ( i doubt you'll always use it connected to the mains with an adapter)..
Then find out what media it takes cuz you'll definitely need that.. i've found Secure Digital is expensive.. compact flashes cheaper.. Smart Media in between the two..
Take pictures.. see how fast it allows you to take two in a row.. and compare it with your desired frequency .. check color accuracy when testing PQ and know the size of print 3MP will allow.. is it enough for you?? should be as not many always get 8x10's of every photo they take..
Invest in NiMH batteries and a charger asap.. these cameras chew up alkalines and spit them out. with color LCD's and flash.. they go even faster..
i wouldn't rule out e-bay.. sometimes you find a good deal on a 3MP if the owner is upgrading to the 5 or 6+ or SLR's..
Good Luck
Corrupt Angel, the A70 is slightly above his budget, but remember where he/she lives. In uae! The cheap electronics mecca (after japan).
Faisal Bhai, Yes sony has along way to go. Only their dsc-f series is good;) I miss my Olympus c-3020 ![]()
Pakis Rock, if you can spend the extra few dollars surely do so. The A40 is great, but the A70 comes with some of the problems solved(night shots are superb-very little noise). If you “cannot” spend the $$$ for the a70, atleast look into the a60. You wont be dissapointed.
If I was in your situation, I would buy the A70 , as it will grow as your experience with cameras grow. The capabilities with the A70 are endless. I forget how many manual options it has! But i can swear there are alot! You will notice the need when you get stuck with a camera that only has 2 options (my sony has auto and scene :p).
Dont worry about the memory, Compact flash is one of the cheapest formats out there, and its not bad.

If the Canon aint for you, then Olympus comes at a close second. I have had several Olympus’s and their photo output is amazing for the price
The problem is that i cannot test it myself or go around stores before buying as i am asking someone in the US to buy it for me(i am in Dubai, middle-east). So i am depending on the reviews on website and u people here.
I dont actually have a prefrence for a shape.. but more on quality, features and price. I wont be taking much prints ... so a 2MP or 3MP would do.
I have sort of decided on getting a Canon A60(it has good reviews) and buying an extra Compact Flash Card 128MB or 256MB depending on the price, but dont know where i can get a good deal from. I have found some on Yahoo Shopping.. but dont actually know if they are reliable dealers.
any input from u guys would be helpful before i make a decision.

Save yourself the hassle, and check the price in dubai. Negotiating is acceptable in dubai, and you wont get ripped off doing so. You'll pay less in dubai.
as an exercise, even if you're buying in the US, please do post current 'haggled-down' prices for A60 or A70.. I would be very interested in knowing the difference..
hskhan is right! If you got more money then why not buy something BETTER... That's what I did, I was looking for a cam in $100-200 price range and ended up buying a better cam for $100+ more bucks...didn't regret that I did!:-)
Corrupt Angel- so which cam did u get.
As HsKhan suggested i'll be checking the prices here in Dubai first.. and see what kind of deal i get before i order one from US.
I settled for Canon S200…(I took these two pics… this and this …both without using flash..cool, eh!
)
Cannon Powershot:k:…
