**$ 1100 m to be spent on Elevated Expressway, **Rail link between twin cities

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP): Government would spend $ 1100 million on proposed Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and construction of new rail system in the twin cities in near future, an official source told APP here Wednesday. The Elevated Expressway costing $ 350 million would be a six-lane road between the twin cities and would be completed in three years with Chinese assistance. The expressway will run over Murree road and then turn to Islamabad Highway via Faizabad Interchange (already existing) and would divert from proposed Zero Point Interchange on to Kashmir Highway and via Aabpara would run to the Pakistan Secretariat either via Kashmir Highway /Constitution Avenue or Khayaban-i-Surhwardy.

Interchanges and flyovers would be constructed at Mareer Chowk, Committee Chowk,Chandi Chowk,Sixth road and Stadium intersection, Faizabad , Zero Point interchange, and Aabpara, and would terminate at Pakistan Secretariat. After the completion of the expressway the motorists will be able to cover a distance of around 25 Kilometers in less than twenty minutes, which would save both fuel and time.

In order to further reduce the traffic hazards a rail system costing $ 750 million is also planned to be constructed for the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in a phased programme. The project to be completed in ten years will also have Chinese assistance. In the first phase Rawalpindi will be linked with Islamabad via already laid railway line upto I-10 sector in Islamabad. From this point a monorail is planned to link I-10 sector with other sectors of Islamabad.Similarly in Rawalpindi Main Station will be liked with other localities via monorail at a later stage the system will be extended to Rawat on the GT Road on southern part and Wah Cantt on the Northern part and also linking the new Airport with Rawalpindi Islamabad.

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin

Mashallah. Government is making very good progress.

Milk and Honey is flowing in our canals these days.

Only 50% of the population is left below the poverty line. Inshallah that will be die of hunger, so the future looks very bright. Infrastructure (read kickbacks) is the priority of our government, so we can compete with India and China in years to come.

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin

mashallah, our own people are turning against pakistan, mashallah.

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin

Critcizing government's priorities is 'turning against Pakistan' ? Are you sure?

Have you seen the results? On paper and in real? Have you visited middle and lower middle class areas lately? Do you have idea of law and order situation right under the nose of a powerful general? Do you know our president makes 200K a month but drinks Rs. 4000 whiskey, while more than 50% of the population can't afford meal 2 times a day? This too when we have $$Billion in surplus.

Priorities baba priorities! Muhateer bannay chale hain, without having any plan. There is no plan to utilize this surplus to eliminate inflation and support poor population. Nobody is against infrastructure, but there should be something for poor population as well.

Don't rant about BB and NS performances in their times. Tell me what these bufoons are doing right now.

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin

Just some misguided folk. I think whether people like a certain leader or not, that should not stop them praising/acknowledging the positive developments that happen in Pakistan.

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin

Talking about extreme inflation and poverty in the shadows of sky scrapers and multibillion motorway is misguidance. So true!

And its not certain leader, any leader that does corruption and put public on the last priority deserve chithrol.

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin

you are clearly critising development and not the gov. and only an enemy of the state does that.

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin

yes its a shame we have these traitors here,

Re: $1.1 billion to be spent on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Elevated Expressway and Rail Lin
