I recently bought 07 civic, it has 128k clicks on it. I seem to have bought it at a good price. However, when i drive it, i do feel the noise coming from the tires. Engine itself is running perfectly fine, but as i try to speed up, the sound of the noise seems to be coming from the tires. To me, tires look ok.. it still has some tread left on it.. but you think it can still give road noise? Do you think its the tires giving me the road noise? the person i bought it from said that i have to change the tires to get rid of the noise.. it wasnt as bad as it is not though…so im guessing its the tires? When the car is parked, and turned on, the engine is very quiet.. its only when im on the road, that it make noise..
Help please. I will be going to mechanic tomorrow to see what the problem is. But do you guys think its time to replace the tire even if it has some tread left? ( or does tread even matter ) ?
Perhaps there’s a nail/rock/some_object which is lodged in the tire and everytime the tire turns full circle, this thing hits the ground, causing the noise.
OR,
maybe the boots on the drive shaft (which cover the CV joints) are torn, and the joints are now damaged, causing the joints to clunk as you drive.
Can you narrow the sound to one corner? If it’s the rear wheels then it’s not your drive shaft but if it’s your front wheels, then it could be a drive shaft problem.
To be honest with you 99/100 times when the road noise get worse with speed its generally the problem of bearings, so i suggest you to get your bearings checked before doing anything. The 2nd reason might be that the tires/wheels are out of balance. Also it worth to have a look at the control arms and cambers (may be the cambers are out of adjustment, especially if the car has a hit recently).
