zakaat

Re: zakaat

Personal use is what one wear all the time. Well that is why there is a limit.

But remember that personal use does not exampt gold from Zakat once it is above the minimum yearly saving / wealth limit. Personal use term only apply on other valuable items like stones, watch or other items in a limit.

If I have two watches, one of which cost Rs. 5000 and other one is Omega or Rolex. I wear the expensive watch all the time, the normal valued which I wear once in a week. The first watch will be considered as personal use item and the other expensive one will be valued for Zakat.

The personal use item is the normal acceptable standard of an item for public. Even if someone wears / uses lavish items does not make it personal use.

Re: zakaat

If a person has debt (student loans, credit card debt, etc.) but they have more than 7.5 tolas of gold, how does that work? I have heard that if your debt is greater than the amount owed in zakat, you dont pay. Or is it if your debt is larger than your total wealth (my only wealth right now is my gold) then you dont have to pay?

Or do I still have to pay on my total wealth?
