If you had a mate who you have a lot of banter with, and one day he shows you a picture of his son and your like “he’s ugly just like his dad” would you expect him to take it as a joke? Or would you never say it cause it crosses a personal line?

Whenever you insult someone, you must drop in a compliment. For eg:

“Whose kid is this? Can’t be yours. You are far too good looking”
