When I was married and lived away from my parents, my husband used to go to the masjid for taraweeh and I would be home alone. I remember calling up my mom and asking how how to do taraweeh..and she said 20 times (something like that). So i started to pray...and by the time the husband came home, I was still praying. I was wondering how he finsihed so fast and I was still doing it. Was finally finished and went to bed. Next morning I asked ammi how come it takes me so long to do it. I told her I do 20 times 2 rakat salah and it takes soooo long. She laughed and said ur supposed to read 10 times 2 rakah salah, which is 20 rukus. doh! no wonder it took so long.
now I go to my local masjid for taraweeh. I like to following with the Quran while the Shaykh is reciting.
My parents weren't dedicated to read taraweeh prayers until later on in their lives. I used to pray with my phoopho and I use to lose count of the prayers. She taught me to count on the threads of the janamaz. Something I still do today.
I do the same! We've also washed and collected the stones from the dates we eat at Iftaar so we use them for counting as well.
Dang, I certainly dont want to be the person standing behind them in the jamaat at that time
I know! Apparently everyone knows who the culprits are so my brother makes sure he never stands behind them! :D

Even if I were to do 40 short rakaats (last 10 surahs), I could finish it before people praying a normal Quran Taraweeh would.
I wasn't referring to speed reading either. In our regular Taraweeh it takes 5-7 minutes to do 2 rakats. That's reading through 1.25 to 1.5 paras in a night . I can easily pray 4 rakaats in that time, without rushing, if I stick to the last 10 surahs,
i dont remember what it was (ie. taraweeh or isha) but once i accidently dozed off in sajda/sujood. so that was kinda embarrassing. i do think it comes pretty close to the most embarrassing things ive done in my life thus far. sigh
