I was such a baby that I do not remember. I am told that I was too happy to get out of the chaos of home which we shared with dozens of cousins and other relatives. :D

I cried my boogers out. Yes i remember my first day in montessori 1984.

I did not cry at all! I was so excited because it meant I was a big girl like my sisters who were in school.

My clearest memory though was that the first day of school begat the Anglicization of my desi name. Because the secretary pronounced my name with the harsh Anglo accent, from that day forth, my name was distorted.

It took me many years to reclaim my name and have people pronounce it closer to the way it's actually pronounced in Urdu.
