Re: Your favorite quotes
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.** I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.” **

“Never grow a wishbone, daughter, where your backbone ought to be.” – Clementine Paddleford
Re: Your favorite quotes
Can you explain please. What’s a wishbone?
Re: Your favorite quotes
Very good quotation.
Re: Your favorite quotes
The quote is a play on words! The term wishbone here is used metaphorically (to wish for things to happen without taking the necessary steps to make the wish reality) in conjunction with ‘backbone’ (suggesting the strength needed to make the “wish” or desire happen.) In other words, don’t have your head so much in the clouds that you forget to strengthen yourself to make changes in your life, etc. Or at least that’s how I interpret it!
More practically, an actual wishbone is the furcula (a forked section) of a bird: CLICK.
It’s from one of my favourite writers! CLICK
Re: Your favorite quotes
My take on it is wishbone is very weak and people snap it. Father is telling his daughter to be strong and to have grit and gumption and not be broken as easily as a wish bone breaks.
