In my childhood my dad read for me stories from the Qur'an in his own words
Best sort of bed time story, but Koran is not a fairy story it is a work of Non-Fiction... it is a sacred text to be taken seriously. :)

Faris Bhai! I agree but that time my dad explained me like we explain to a child as per child’s understanding/sense of thinking but now i remember. Jaise kehtain hain ke bachpaan ka ilam phatar ki lakeer hota hy. :k:

Haha, Rumplestiltskin came to mind as well. But I remember going through a mermaid phase as a kid. There's a sort of haunting/enchanting quality to the story.

the little mermaid was one of mine too b/c i read the story that was not the cutesy disney version of it, the original one and it is more close to reality than the "happily ever after" type of ending
even alice and wonderland, the original story is creepy in parts

I recently taught Rapunzel to my class of 30, 19 of which are boys. I could not read the ending with a straight face, 'Rapunzel's tears cured the Prince's blindness' It was freaking amazing! The boys in my class were all 'What? That can't be true' and the girls were all 'YEA, the prince can see her beautiful hair now!'
It made me LOL a lot. I defo pick Rapunzel as my favourite.

I loved Goldilocks. Had my dad tell it over and over again :D and there was this other story mom used to tell of Babar Badshah.. my brother loved it.
Other among fav. bedtime stories were Littlle Red Riding Hood, Hensel and Gratel (I used to get scared listening to it but still wanted dad to go cos I wanted to hear the happy ending..lol). There are so many of them, I just loved stories. : )
