"Your baby can read"

Re: "Your baby can read"

bump

so did anyone else try 'Your baby can read'??

any thoughts onthis? I was thinking of trying it but I need opinions!

Re: "Your baby can read"

the so-called educators have stolen childhood from kids by putting too much pressure on them to learn and learn early and fast, now they want to deprive babies of their babyhood...GREAT! whats next? teach the babies in their mother's wombs?

Re: “Your baby can read”

i would say instead of teaching them read words, teach them alphabet sounds and and maybe name, give them vocabulary “glass, ball, etc” sit with them and read a picture book, this will help them get into the habit of reading…talk about the pictures in the book.

http://www.starfall.com/ this is a good site if you need help with alphabet sound.

Re: "Your baby can read"

Have you not seen the headphones that can fit on a mothers tummy so she can play classical music and speak to the baby while in the womb. I'm going to get one and recite Quran and derive every mathematical equation from 1st principles to by baby, it's first words are going to be 'Allahu Akbar' or some Langragian mechanics formula.

Has anyone seen 'My baby can read' in any other languages, might be useful to buy them for my sis in laws.

Re: "Your baby can read"

Ok guys, stay on topic! Early learning doesnt mean that you give kids paper and pencil at age of 1 but introducing them to concrete concepts like count their toys with them, name thing around the house and in their environment, give them names and sounds of alphabet, read age appropriate picture books with them, talk about the pictures, etc.

Kids introduced to these concrete concepts at an early age have more chances of being successful when they start kindergarten compare to kids who come with zero knowledge in kindergarten. Also till age 4.5-5 yrs is the best time for a child to absorb these basic concepts and internalize them. After age 5, it is much difficult. Once your child has secured like 10 sounds a, s, t, m, p, h, o, d, f, b; you can start blending sounds with them like /c//a//t/ . Again blending for most kids will come around 4-5, mostly when they are 5.

Re: "Your baby can read"

So anyone found anything similar to 'my child can read' in Arabic.

Re: "Your baby can read"

I'm not sure how good of a tool this is. I did see the ad as well and was wondering what we would achieve the kids had started reading at infancy...At age 21 when all their friends are together one evening, I wonder if anybody would really care if any of them started reading at 6 months...or if their future would be brighter in any way. Dunno. I think meddling with nature too much isn't necessary.

Now if this were a tool to help overcome a learning disorder, that would be something.

Re: "Your baby can read"

Someone already said this, but what's the rush? Let your baby be a baby, enjoy the cooing and gurgling and the squeals of joy, they don't last long, trust me. Soon your little one will be talking on his/her own and won't shut up and you'll wish for just a moment of quiet.

Re: "Your baby can read"

the other day a colleague of mine came to my home with his 3 year old.

During the conversation - he suddenly asked his son 'whats the capital of US'

The kid replied correctly and then he answered some more.
The parent was looking so happy when the kid uttered those correctly.

I looked at my wife and we exchanged a furtive smile. Well to each his own - but felt he was leading his kid towards a 'rattu tota' as well call it - learning without understanding. At that age this piece of information is useless I feel.

so same is what I feel with this one...there is a time , age , sequence for everything.

Re: "Your baby can read"

I still dont get why a 6 month old baby needs to know how to read

Re: "Your baby can read"

**its true what u said but not always...its a kinda tool to guage ur child's intelligence. i'll tell you a real story:

this uncle, i'm told by my bro, was married to to a mentally challenged lady. he was always worried what will happen to the kids if he chose to have babies. he trusted Allah and he had his first daughter. as he was genuinely worried about the baby's cognitive level, he started testing his daughter by stimulating her responses. first her motor skills by moving objectys in the air to see if she followed the object...it was good, and then her intelligence. at age 2-3 he was surprised to see that when he pointed his finger on most country and asked her where that country's flag was at the botton, she would correctly point that out to him. [from very early in age he used to hold her in his arms infront of the map and tell her the names of the countries and where their corresponding flags were and thats how that lil kid 2-3 yrs old learned from]. then he thanked Allah. he knew that the baby will grow into a normal healthy person inshaa Allah.

he was right! she excelled in education, she skipped the grade twice in school. she got accepted in med school after only 3 years into her undergrad program [its not very common...u need 4 years degree mostly] she got gold medals, she is a finishing her 5 years of Psychiatry. she will be practicing in July thsi year.

so, its a good tool to guage ur child's intellect level.**

Re: "Your baby can read"

I bought this tapes -- it's only US$50 on craiglist. My son hate it - because it's so boring! Better buy baby Einstein - colorful and more enjoyable for kids.

Re: "Your baby can read"

I dont think that is rattu toota, that is just general knowledge. I teach pre-K and K. My 4yrs old kids can tell you that we live on planet earth and name of the continents. Some con even tell you all the planet names and 1 or 2 little details about those planets like pluto is no more part of solar system...
