Lahore Resolution (later Pakistan Resolution) was passed by politicians and not the military men. Yet, Pakistan’s armed forces have hijacked this day as if these Punjabi and Pashtoon generals passed the Lahore Resolution and they think they created this country whose taxpayers are working hard to pay for their huge military budget.
This day, leaders of All India Muslim League resolved to make Pakistan because they believed they couldn’t live with Hindus in a country where laws of the land would be based on secularism or Hinduism. They had never thought of getting independence from the British and Hindus and giving it back to a post-colonial army trained by the colonial British Empire.
If our armed forces think they are really a strong muscular power in the region, they may choose some other day in the history when they overpowered our traditional enemy India for example. 23rd March should be marked with the ideology of Pakistan which is Islam. This day should be celebrated by the whole nation. Universities, colleges, schools should have programs to highlight the importance of this great event which began the Pakistan movement and within 7 years Pakistan became a reality.
