Hmmm.... its gonna be early in the morning (10 AM) so im still debating as to whether I shud go witness something interesting or sleep :D ... i doubt there'll be any protestors though.. in fakt there aren't even many ppl who DONT salute wat she did, except maybe the 2 or 3 ppl u c here on gupshup :p

This shows your knowledge about Islam, Pakistan and our culture. You are accusing a religion that is kidnapped by the oppressor to support their ill deeds.
Sometimes it seems you have not stepped on Pakiland or read the life of prophet saw. The Shariyah laws were defined by Allah to prevent society from adultry and false alligations. This is us men who are playing with Allah’s law and turning them in our own favour.

^ dude i think she is saying that supposedly conservative religious people in villages behind such shameful acts and somehow mixing an illdefined sense of "ghairat" and religion is wrong. That the religion is being twisted and while ppl like u and I can see it the perps not only do not realize it but are infact twisting it to fit into theri tribal mindset and backward ass thinking. Education..right education is the key here.

Because they've taken a position of authority amongst their brethren muslims. They have a civic duty and responsibility to be moral in their decisions.

The only connection between rapists and Islam is that those people are Muslims (though by name) and there is no ruling in Islam which allows rape for rape(or other adulterous affairs) so I see no other connection between rape and Islam. The only thing I see is that you assumed that those people in panchayat were Muslims and were following Islamic sharia which is absolutely incorrect assumption.

Because I know what “panchayat” system is :halo:, the people in “panchayat” are not REQUIRED to be aalims/scholars/judges (from education system), they make decisions based on their ‘instincts/pressures from powerful parties/emotions etc’.

Right, the connection is that they call themselves "muslim" and purport to be followers of "Islam".
But you can't ignore that aspect. That is the root cause of the problem. People do not know much about the religion they tend to follow. And that too, on a mass scale as you're seeing it in villages...
Which means, you have maulvis in these villages who are not teaching Islam right to these people, because they obviously don't know how haraam it is to rape a girl this way.
Even villagers didn't do anything to stop the scene. And this happens repeatedly.
So how are they muslim? What is stopping them from carrying out their muslim duty to stop an injustice?
You can't separate Islam from social issues in Pakistan. Pakistan was made FOR Islam. FOR muslims so they can practice their faith.
