This has always been my approach. One shouldn’t convert to please their partner - if they do convert, it should be because they believe in the principles of the faith. And unless he/she converts, an inter-religious couple is setting themselves up for issues down the road when kids are added to the mix.
Not saying it never works - but, I always see the reasons that it can’t/won’t rather than the reasons it might work.
