World's largest US embassy

MV,

i never stated to give the money to any Mullah.

OG,

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Now why does that sound so familiar?

Seminole, Many African countries could also use some of that freedom. We can spread the freedom bug to them, if we are in Iraq for solely altruistic purposes, as your post sort of makes it out to be. Let's start with all the African countries that don't possess oil.

Well isn't this sweet.

If we had a nice small embassy we would be accused of cutting and running. If we had a medium sized embassy, we would be accused of not helping ENOUGH, and then we would be subject to the Afghanistan allegations all over again.

A big embassy means that the US will be committed to the stability of Iraq under the "you break it, you bought it" doctrine. It means that reconstruction dollars will keep flowing, and national figures will be supported.

This is certainly a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

The damning has already begun by those who would take a cheap shot no matter what is done....

Og did it ever occur to you that this was not a problem we should have gotten into? We put orselves in this situation and opened ourselves to this criticisim, now we should have the guts to take it likle a strong nation that we claim we are.

^ So now the US is now and forever in a position that it cannot defend any more of its actions? If tomorrow the US decides to downscale the embassy plans to a staff of only 100, that would be a legitimate gripe? What about somewhere in between, say 500 staff? Got to stand there and take that one like a strong nation too?

Then here's a thought - how about NO American embassy in Iraq :D

Keep one in Jordan. Close enough.
