World's dangerous batsmen today?

Re: World’s dangerous batsmen today?

I think this thread has something to do with Gilchrist’s latest 100 off 56/57 balls :hmmm:

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

For water drinks, okay.

Oops, my typing mistake. Then I will put Abdul Razzaq.

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

Kevin peterson is dangerous along with ponting. KP since his debut always been threat to opponents, even ponting compared him to viv richards I believe.

KP got this flare when his batting, never seen him really strugling,no real weekness either, btw look how he is treating Mcgrath.

overall I think KP is exciting batsmen to watch.

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

A dangerous batsman for me is a destructive batsman like Viv Richards who can quickly take the game away from you but more importantly unlike Afridi is an intelligent slogger and knows which balls to smash out of sight and which ones to leave or defend

I agree with the names of Gilchrist and Pietersen on your list - very destructive in both forms of the game.

I would however also add the following names to that list:

  • Ponting (the best batsman today)
  • Lara
  • Tendulkar (of the 90s)........e.g. his desert storm innings in 1998 v Australia in Sharjah and his 98 against Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim and Waqar in 2003 WC QF

Hayden also was for a time a very destructive batsman in both forms of the game.

Jayasuriya, Gayle, Gibbs, Razzaq, Dhoni, Kemp, Sehwag and Symonds can all be very destructive in ODIs but lack consistency

Yousuf is a great batsman with an excellent record in both forms of the game but he does not fit the description of a destructive batsman for me. neither do Hussey, Kallis, Inzi or Dravid - all very good batsmen nevertheless.

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

2006 please. No ancient!

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

How come Ponting is not on your list?

I assume you are only looking at ODIs. Let's go thru your list

  • Adam Gilchrist........ dangerous yes most definitely
  • Symonds (lacks consistency)
  • Kevin Pietersen (struggled against SLA and PAK in Summer 2006)
  • Jayasuriya (getting on a bit, had a good summer in England but has struggled since then)
  • Razzaq (again lacks consistency)
  • Dhoni (lacks consistency)
  • Kemp (don't just look at one knock against India)

My point is none of them apart from Gilchrist and Pietersen to a ceratin extent is good enough to consistently do it in ODIs

And don't underestimate Lara or Ponting...........

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

can we lock this thread up please? its a joke

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

the world's most dangerous belong to the most dangerous team which is australia.all the rest are not of the same caliber.i think the best way to judge how good a batsman is by their contribution in big games like finals, semi finals, etc.and u would find that australians are ahead of the pack in the regard.because others choke in big match situations while aussies dont.

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

Very nicely described and agree with you totally.

Re: World's dangerous batsmen today?

Mike Hussey and Yuvraj Singh. They both are destructive and mature batsmen and do have one great thing 'match winng ability'. They both are very consistent with their performances.

India is badly missing Yuvraj and sings are that he may not be able to participate in the up coming World Cup. This is a huge blow for India, on other hand Australia has found a true gem in Hussey. After Bevan and Bichael departure, Hussey has lifted Australia and may be very instrumental in their title run.
