Do you think that the Soviets were not infinitely more powerful? The policy of Mutually Assured Destruction assured no destruction.
If "hundreds of thousands" die as Lajawab wishes, do you think it will leave no tracks? Do you think that a massive demonstration of power would not result? How quaint. If hundred of thousands of Americans died, the howling for blood would be monsterous. Some part of the planet would disappear, without a doubt.
The West does not want a pernmanent solution to this problem? Huh? I have news for you. Before 9/11 Americans could have given a rats a$$ about most Muslim countries. You can flatter yourselves, but other than the oil most Muslim countries were remarkably unimportant. Guilty of ignoring you perhaps, but War on Islam? Don't waste my time. The real cause behind terrorism? Blind hate, powerlessness and a relentless brainwashing propaganda.

why in the world all of this “blind hate” and “relentless brainwashing propaganda” in “illiterate Muslim societies” has started taking place after America has become the only superpower … what about 1950, 1960, 1970 and 1980…these illiterate, powerless and lawless Muslim societies were still in place back in 50, 60 or 70 but there was no attack by Muslim terrorists on West…any answer Mr. OG???

also the capitalization of terrorism happened after the saudis started spreading their wonderful islam across the lands and created such great companies like jihad U in pakistan, kaffir hell brigade Inc. in Afghanistan and allshhatesjews.com in ramallah (coincidentally name after Ram and allah..go figure.) all during this time..the chinkoos and hindoos and jews..paved the way for me to have my signature.

You answered it in your own question. As you allude to, the US became the only policeman with the fall of USSR. That, combined with the growing jihadi movement, began the attacks against the west.
The US has held the role of world policeman since WWII. They didn’t go all cowboy-sheriff with Muslim nations until the invasion of Iraq, and that was long after fundamentalist terrorists began their jihad campaign.

The “moderate muslims” were too impotent or maybe just too afraid to confront their own demons and as usual the US has had to step up. No one said it was going to be easy, or pretty.
