England played really really poorly.
4 problems:
- they are playing without any clear system or plan, therefore
- all passes are backwards, so
- their defenders come into play, but are too lacking in technique and can only play the long balll consequently,
their most technical players (gerrard, lampard) aren't into the play much
They lack too much in fitness

lampard is not delivering, he has had many chances but just has not been on target

Bad performance. Very static and not enough tempo in the game. How many times did England actually make Ecuador’s goalkeeper make a save? Hardly any. Rooney play exceptional but was isolated at most times.
At this rate Holland/Portugal will kick our butts in the quarters

It was said from the get go that england is going to slow the pace down and make ecuador play slow. With the heat today, there was no way England was going to go for a fast paced game. The were successful in keeping it slow and thus not running out of steam. they could have done a lot more though even with the slow pace.

Sven is throughly confusing his players with formation. They are NOT comfortable with 4141 and I wonder why did he not practice with this formation last year. Beckham proved once again that he still is one of the best when it comes to set pieces delivery. Today Lampard and Gerrard were given license to barge ahead but they surprisingly failed to do so. Too many times Rooney was isolated and there was no one to support him where I expected Gerrard or Lampard to be there. Only time it happened was at the end when Rooney slid through one for Lampard who somehow missed a sitter.
All in all, a win is a win but they will be beaten by Portugal or Holland UNLESS somehow midfield combines with Rooney for better results. They reached the quarters playing crap. If somehow things start clicking they will go beyond that; but thats a big if
