Regardless of who said this, it would be nice to see the United States of America get by ONE day without importing cheap cheap cheap ass goods from china and the rest of the world. A McDs happy meal definitely wont be a really happy one when a local U.S. made happy meal toy costs McDs $5 instead of 5 cents.

lets set the record somewhat straight here.
First, Robin Williams (yes, the comic) may not have originated the comments but he DOES use them in his act. People find it "amusingly entertaining" which means that they are at least somewhat in agreement OR he would not use those comments in his act.
As far as me-self....call me/label me whatever you want but lets see...I'm married to the best man on the planet, he's of Pakistani origin and some of the best people I've ever met are Pakistani. It breaks my heart to hear of the hostile stares he gets during his commute to work. And its a constant worry that one day a hostile gori type who subscribes wholly to Mr Williams comments goes after him.
I for one make every attempt to enlighten people of this type if I encounter them. What's being done in England - enacting laws against preaching hatred - well, I do see it as a restriction on freedom of speech. But really its a step in the right direction.
BTW, I received these comments in an email with the title "Words of wisdom from robin williams" and I should not really have named the thread the same....but really, the majority of amrikans would say "yeah man!!" to the whole thing. Thats why I said "sad but true".

...ps one more comment. "Amrikans" may have many faults. But if it came down to it, the people would get by, band together and do without this precious oil if need be. There is no people on the planet who can come close to the ingenuity and resolve of the people here. Have no doubt. The whole oil "thang" is an issue created and maintained by politicians and power brokers. The PEOPLE can and would do without, would get by nicely and even very likely come up very quickly with alternate power sources. I dont think it would be a bad thing at all for the world situation in general.

...and PCG, yes the comments about giving seeds and grain was particularly mean. I think its in reference to what happened to the Black Hawks in Africa, USA was there to give aid and food and look what happened. But the statement was cruel and mean-spirited.
As far as your comments about putting Muslims in concentration camps because of the oil situation, it really doesnt fit. I mean, Pakistan has NO oil for USA. Or really, anything else. Anyway, concentration camps and/or mass deportation isnt the way here. I see maybe new laws being enacted similar to England where theyre making it illegal to preach hatred...but beyond that, Hitlerism isnt an option here as far as I could imagine.
Most amrikans know squat-didly about economics and foreign policy, thats the problem.

I don’t believe that either myself, or most of the conservative minded political guppies here believe this to be “sad but true”. We’d believe it to be “true”, but certainly not “sad”. “Joyous”, perhaps.
As I said, I for one would welcome such meaures to be taken because it would offer the best chance in a long time to be able to create a new Islamic order to fill the vacuum left by the withdrawal of US meddling. Indeed, the steps would be such a politico-economic disaster for the USA that they may well end up enabling such a new Islamic order to quickly rival or even surpass the USA in power. We would view this as being a Good Thing. -
Freedom of speech must be curtailed in some circumstances. Whilst the new law in the UK is one good example, another one would be how promoting Nazi ideology is a criminal offence in Germany too.

Firstly you said: “I mean, Pakistan has NO oil for USA”. This is nothing short of an outright lie by you. Pakistan produces over 60,000 barrels of oil every year and has proven oil reserves in excess of 320 million barrels. This from the CIA world factbook, a US government-financed source.

- You underestomate how important oil is to the USA. It’s about more than transport, heating, and power. The economy is so tightly tied together that the inflationary pressure from hugely escalated oil prices could throw the entire economy into turmoil.
Here’s a small case. Powering trucks and trains and planes and ships will become more expensive, since the available supply of oil will fall. This will make distributing goods across the country more expensive, which will drive up the price of all goods.
WHAAM. Massive inflation. The federal reserve will have to take steps to combat that, such as raising interest rates to try and decrease spending. WHAAAM… mortgages problems for millions of overextended people. That is just the start…

ok MS, lets look at this thing here. You want the USA to fall so that a new islaamic order can take over and surpass the usa.
What it will boil down to is the will and want of the PEOPLE. Americans can and do work long hard hours, have very little vacation time and do/have done whatever needs to get done.
What I've seen of Pakistan and oil-producing countries is a 5 hour (if that) work day, massive corruption in police, politics and business. Vacations that last MONTHS. Lunches that last hours. Pay off whoever needs to get paid off to get things done rather than do it yourself and god forbid work a 14 hour day.
American politics and big business may suck to the max. but have no doubt about the resolve and ability of the PEOPLE here. You wish our downfall but even with all the faults here its a better place to be than a corrupt 3rd world country.

No matter. my point was really that oil is the obsession of politicians and big business. the people would get by and manage without in order to have peace and order in the world. and we'd do it nicely.

Now you’re making an assumption. I want US power to have a downfall. Ideally, without the USA doing the same, since I work for a US multinational and work in a country economically closely tied to the USA.
What I want is for a sufficient weakening of US power to end US meddling in affairs of concern to Muslims.
The qualities of US people that you described are not tied to this. Those qualities haev existed for a long time and yet there was relatively little meddling by the USA in affairs of concern to Muslims until the early 1900s, when the USA began repressing Muslims through cracking down on the Muslim populated areas under its control in the Phillipines.

Facetious? Not in the least. I worry each and every day when he has to go mass transit to work. He can take good care of himself but even the strongest of men cannot overcome the force of a bullet or knife. I pray each and every day for his safe return and for the keeping of his good nature in the face of nastiness and misunderstanding. I dont know what you're trying to imply about "other aspects of his life"...but in just those aspects....he is MY hero, he is everything to his boys and to my family and his. I want to rip out the eyes of anyone who gives him an evil eye, this good, good man with peace in his heart wishes harm to NO ONE so NO ONE should evil eye him.

DO you thikn Brazil and Russia will throw flowers at muslims? Japan and the EU...lets hear it. How would the decline of US power make it better for the muslims.

Blind and dumb are leading the blind. I dont know how will we wake up and face the reality. i dont deny the suppression and cleansing that has taken place, you cant deny that we were crippled. But no body could take our privilage to think for our selves away from us. We have been foolish enough to lock our minds. We have so many examples that we should have learnt from : Israel (at the top of technology and business, it rose from nothingness. Highest ration of PHDs. Founders of cellphone technology, Internet and biomedical research), Japan (bombed and destroyed, rebuilt it self to take over every dimension of consumer eletronics), USA (nation of immigrants, boasts best transportion systems, high quality of life and freedom). We need to go to school and learn history.Our jihad should be to teach ourselves, to take over education, then commerce and business, make progress in science and technology. If you create situation when others view their progress in supporting your development, who can stop you?. Muslims, have the energy , the fury, the strength. We have the stamina, our blood boils with passion. Lets use it constructivlely.
Sadly i dont see it happening anytime soon. It takes a lot of suffering to bring about a revolutionary change. We are going to have to suffer for many more generations.

There shall indeed be less bull**** on our tv screens (reducing annoyance and therefore stress) and thus people will have need to murder less. Maybe even the Americans will have need to murder less - and in this decreased need will also be decreased death (more so than the muslims have casued) and with decreased death more happy karma - for the all of us. Including muslims. And hindus. maybe even buddists.
