Re: Woman to be Pakistan’s Speaker of National Assembly
You are something out of this world really. I don’t want to be personal, but you either are paid a hefty amount for TC Mush or working to topple him indirectly. I know its online discussion, but you have drowned yourself so down that its unbelievable. Unless your whole purpose is to be sarcastic 24/7, teasing Pakistani on this board.
How the hell you give credit for women’s development to Mush. Fatima Jinnah, Nusrat Bhutto and Benazir were leading political figures in Pakistan way before the came into power.
The word’s he used for Mukhtaran Mai and Dr. Shazia, clearly states his real self. No head of a country would have insulted his own women in that manner.
So much for moderation. Its all about saving Army’s interests in the country. The whole country is made for the military.
Re: Woman to be Pakistan's Speaker of National Assembly
Smooth yaar haath zara hola rakho
I think it's a bit of both with Aalsi. He is not a bad guy. He most likely comes from a military family (nothing wrong in that) and he probably does overdo it deliberately at times in order to tease us all.
Even though I do not support Mush now (He has made a series of blunders esp. since March 2007, don't want to go into them again), we must not forget that the country was effectively bankrupt when he toppled NS in 1999 and people were dancing on the streets all over Pakistan (and Lahore of all places)
My main grudge is that Mush did not get himself re-elected in an honest way (i.e. via chor tareeqa by a parliament that was effectively on a respirator). Although Mush does not get any credit for Fehmida Mirza's appointment as the new NA Speaker, it is a fact that there are more women in our national and provincial assemblies now than ever before.
Let's see what our new parliamentarians are made of. Only time will tell whether they have learnt any lessons from their past mistakes and failures and whether they can give us good governance this time around or not.

No where in the world their own people would have insulted their own women like that...as in the above cases.

Do you even know who these "own people" were? They were rogue faujis that were implicated in the rape of Mukhtaran Mai and Mush said what he said in order to save their hides and because their misdeeds were bringing serious shame on the image of the armed forces. How he dealt with those faujis behind closed doors we don't really know!

Re: Woman to be Pakistan’s Speaker of National Assembly
God bless you Smooth bhaijan. And god bless great President Musharaf. Long may he continue and continue to give unprecedented opportunities to women of Pakistan. :k:
Re: Woman to be Pakistan's Speaker of National Assembly
What this has to do with Mush? It is PPP, the biggest political party, PML(N) and ANP had decided who could be their speaker and dy speaker.
As regard Mush's giving opportunities to women, I think you are forgetting something here. In gang rape case of Mukhtaran Mai, he said that Pakistani women should get gang raped to have an immigration opportunity in US/Canada. That is how he respects Pakistani women.:(
Re: Woman to be Pakistan's Speaker of National Assembly
She made a very notable address to the press after her first assembly session, stating that she was keen to work with ALL institutions to move forward. Also, she seemd to giving some terse advice/warning to the media to by all means play their full role in questioning the wrongs of anyone, **but **to make sure that it was done in a "positive" light. Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar seemed to warining the media on Geo's Capital Talk the other week to be patient, and not give advice to the incoming govt to do this or that.

But that's the real job of the media to analyse, predict, comment and dissect the news....& is always a part and parcel of the working democracies...Musharraf tasted it , this new lot should too.
Re: Woman to be Pakistan's Speaker of National Assembly
May be its fatigue for constantly hearing about the "first woman candidate" (Hillary) in the US, but its really getting boring and, frankly quite sexist to be excited about "first woman whatever" discussion.
Good for Fehmida auntie that she is now the Speaker of National Assembly. Now lets see how she delivers. It should be the performance of a person in a position of power that should dictate the commendations and not merely her gender. I am of the school of thought, that woman can do anything a man can do, when they set their minds to it. Lets see how Fehmida carries herself and conducts the proceedings of the National Assembly. This will surely be an interesting ride, just because the Assemblies are full of people with all kinds of different agendas.

Mashallah. It is good to see that the recent statements from Great Zardari, and now form the first woman speaker of NA, Fahmida Mirza, are in-line with what President Musharaf has been saying.
Re: Woman to be Pakistan’s Speaker of National Assembly
Maulana Fazlur Rehman failed to vote for the speaker, probably because he did not want to be seen supporting a woman for this top poistion. Just typical of him.
