Chucker does it again.

Dude..that pictue of kapil is not when he is throwin the ball.are you suggesting kapil was a chucker?
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
No one is suggesting Kapil or Qadir or Malinga is a chucker. Some1 unkil ji has now gone off trying to ban bowlers whose actions he believes are "weird" and "unbecoming of a gentleman cricketer". Basically, actions he does not like. Go figure.
ps. Yeah, yeah.. all in jest. right.

He was just talking about the UNORTHODOX bowling actions

There is a "weird" threshold...and Malinga's action certainly crosses it just like that South African spinner Paul Adam's "frog in a blender" action.
The bowling action of Kapil, Qadir or Thompson does not even come close to being that weird.
Having said that, I am not seriously advocating that Malinga be banned just yet. For now, it will be enough if the ICC can show some guts to get rid of the chuckers like Murali.
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
Hold on now... I think you should go back and check Thompson's bowling action footage and then compare it with Malinga's. They both have/had sling-arm action. There is nothing wrong with it. Its just very hard to control, and that is why most bowlers can't/won't bowl with that action.
Re: Murali... despite all the detractors, the guy continues to perform at his peak over after over, match after match, season after season. For an off-spinner to be such an attacking bowler is really a treat to watch. Re: chucking claims, this is what I will say.. you can ask all your Bhajjis, Kumble's and any other spin bowler you can think of and ask them to chuck and bowl, and I can bet they still won't be even within spitting distance of the success Murali has shown. In your mohalla cricket, you go and chuck; and bowl off-spin and tell me if you can get any more wickets.
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
Ive seen a few mohalla cricketers bowl like malinga way before malinga showed up. It does look a bit wierd but hey as long as the arm is straight. He can send the ball down from all the way up or even sideways.

*Mere pyaare bhai....*there is chucking and then there is chucking with the benefit of a birth defect/physical deformity (not that one is any less illegal than the other). Murali jee falls into the latter category much like your own part-time chucker Shoaib Akhtar Saheb.
Now Kumble cannot emulate Murali's action...even if he wanted to...could he ? There in lies a small thing called "uneven playing field".
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
I am saying is that you don't even need a birth defect. Just throw the darn ball and try to get wickets. Karo khuli duli chucking and show me that anyone can even get a passing of the success Murali gets.
Point is, Murali is an extremely intelligent bowler. To achieve the kind of success and aura he has developed, you need to have a big thinking head on your shoulders. and be extremely talented and then continue to work on your fare day after day and keep improving (stay one step ahead of all the technically sophisticated batsmen). For a spinner to be this deadly, this effective and this consistent requires many things (most in his head). Just chucking or blabbering about chucking won't get the spinner anywhere.
Re: Wisden’s top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
My friend…your love for Murali aside, birth defects of the kind that Murali has does help and helps tremendously. He bowls with his arms bent…for doosras, his arms can be bent up to as much as 14 degrees. ICC’s original rules permitted spinners a max of 5 degrees bend…i.e. until the asian boards made a hue and cry about Murali and ICC upped the allowed bend.
There used to be an Indian spinner, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, who had a physical handicap on account of childhood polio. Like Murali, he too turned this defect to his advantage and is one of the most successful spinners in the Indian cricket history. Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
Can we get Some1 and Faisal married and let Murali be the Qazi. I bet divorce will happen in next 15 minutes. :D
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
Evolution has caught up with cricket. Is may Shoaib ya Murali ki kia ghalti?
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
I know about Chandrasekhar, and I think that just proves the point. Just having a deformity or permission to chuck doesn't really make you world number one. Look at the comparable records.
Chandra hardly played any ODI's so lets focus on tests.
Chandrasehkar:
58 tests.
242 wkts
29.74 avg
2.70 eco
69.96 SR
Murali
110 tests (89% more)
674 wickets (178% better)
21.73 avg (26% better)
2.39 eco (11% better)
54.45 SR (22% better)
Point being, just having a birth defect or allowed to chuck won't make you Wisden's leading cricketer of the World. Its more in the head and the ability to be one step ahead of the batsmen.
By the way, just one final point about comparison between Chandra and Murali. Due to his abnormality, Chandra was never himself sure what kind of ball he is gonna bowl. Murali has immense control over his deliveries. Big big difference. Again. Its more about whats in the head. Just yapping about birth defects and chucking is naive.
Re: Wisden’s top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
Murali may be an intelligent bowler…but we will never know.
We first need to get his deformity out of the way.
Also, its not reasonable to do a one2one comparison between Murali and Chandra…given that they dont have the exact same physical defect.
That’s it…I won the debate ![]()
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
Hmm
Murali minus Birth Defect = Saqlain minus Bad Luck
Re: Wisden’s top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
YOU may never know, for everyone else its blantantly obvious. And once you get over the loss he handed to the Boys in Blue, then may be you can look at it more objectively. If you still get hung up on birth defect and chucking and what not, then obviously no one can help you there.
Lets focus on things you can do, rather then going to pure hypotheticals.
You brought Chandrasehkar in this discusstion as a shining example of someone with medical defect who was a successful bowler. Now that the comparison has proven that Murali is a class apart from run of the mill (normal and medically deformed) bowlers you are running away from comparisons. Which is fine. There is only one other bowler in the history of cricket who is arguably as (or more) smarter than Mursli and that is Warne. And this history of cricket includes all medically fit and medically deformed people. No “special” cricketer has achieved this kind of success either.
Yeah, you can keep this yellow smilie cup. :halo:
Re: Wisden's top cricketer award goes to Muralitharan
I agree that birth defects should not give someone an excuse to chuck but as far as I am aware no one is given the permission to chuck cause of a defect. All the actions checked fall into the "legal" category. In all honestly I have nothing agianst Murali and he does spin it yards but it does seem like (atleast with the naked eye) that he chucks.
Within out own team I can easily say Shoaib's current action is very questionable. I said current cause there is a huge difference from the time he srarted till now. His action was much smoother in the early part of his career. His arm use to come around smoothly, now there is a pretty visible jerk in there.
Malinga on the other hand has a weird action but I dont see anything wrong with it.
India have their very own Harbhajan who's action is also very questionable. I saw him bowling in this world cup and he also seems like bending his elblow a lot more then other bowlers.

Unless they kill each other before that. They'll probably throws stones at each yelling
"See this time I chucked, it hurts more, doesnt it"
"Would have hurt even more if you had a physical defect, mental one dont count"
