well I am not at home and is on my way out.. so replying from mobile.
I cant remember without having it in front of me. Just do this:
open that rar file and press extract. it will ask u where u want to extract. Just press ok. It will extract it in the same folder.
then u can check in that if the filed are out of rar file.

That is not an illegal software. Its use makes it illegal. As the thread starter said she is trying to recover a password she herself put there and forgot. To crack that password is absolutely legal!
