Its still hard for a non-techie user to mess around Package Managers and Terminal Commands to install their softwares, windows is still king of the consumer OS scene.

yes and then if a hacker decides to hack you, they find 18 year old vulnerability that a user supported system never fixed.

I am sort of excited as it is a free upgrade. The only reason that the excitement is tampered is that Win10 is not compatible with some of my programs and I still fear about breaking my computer as Home version, the one us consumers can get, wouldn’t allow you control over updates. Now, how many times do you remember MS seeding an update, breaking your computer and saying not to install it / uninstall it to get a new update and you thought ‘Phewww, good that I didn’t install it right away?’

PS I don’t even know why they didn’t go to the Classic Start / Start8 inspired ‘Start’ menu in the first place? Who are these engineers that don’t live in reality and have to screw up one windows version to fix it the next time? Is it actually MSFT’s end goal to show ‘progress’ by screwing up Vista and 8?

I am surprised that baldie Balmer never figured out this basic GUI question. Good riddance to him!

The all new start menu is a hybrid of the old classic start menu (Win7) and the new Metro start screen (win8), i have been running the Windows 10 Tech Preview for the last few months and its incredibly fast and smooth for a beta version, am really excited for the final version, this is the best version of windows MS ever built, and a great upgrade for windows 7 (windows 8 wasnt bad, but felt like a beta version or some sort of a hybrid version of Windows 7 and the Windows mobile). And i believe you will have control over updates just like all the previous version, always left it to notify me but never update automatically. And the current preview build is pretty solid for daily driver, almost all of my windows7/8 tools works fine on it.
