I think they’d have implemented backhaul towers all around town… no?
As it is, WiMax provides coverage to large areas – theoretically… as large as 8000 square KMs, and supports both non line of sight mode at lower frequencies and line of sight mode at higher frequencies.
Are they implementing this in stages? Installing towers in certain parts of town before moving on to others?
It’s a great step overall... it's one of the first full blown implementations at metropolitan levels around the world.
WiMax is going to do to wired broadband internet access what cell phones did to land line access… besides the GAN (802.20) standard is something I’m really really looking forward to (still about 7 to 8 years away I think…).
