Yes Islam does not dictate whether you should or should not allow your wife to work or earn. But we can learn many things from our ancestors and our Holy Prophet(SAW). If our Holy Prophet(SAW) did something that makes it easy for us to follow and if he(SAW) did not do something or rejected something then it becomes easy for us to avoid or reject it.
