He didn’t pray for her to die, he just prayed for everything to be out in the open. Her or her baby dying did not necessarily prove that the baby was illegitimate. The uncles asked him to forgive her because they may have felt guilty, they still didn’t accept anything (or atleast it doesn’t say that they did).

And it came out in the open. He prayed for the pregnancy to not be kept safe if it was haram. Thus the baby died and so did the wife
