‘Swat MPs not consulted on peace deal’
LAHORE: Awami National Party MPA from Swat Lala Afzal Khan has strongly criticised the peace agreement between the NWFP government and the Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) saying that the local elected representatives were not on board, a private TV channel reported on Wednesday. Talking to the TV channel, Lala Afzal Khan claimed that none of the seven lawmakers from Swat were consulted by the provincial government on the agreement. He denied that the residents of Swat were supporting the agreement, and said he believed the deal would not last long. Lala Afzal, who has been defying threats from the Taliban, opposed his party’s move of engaging TNSM chief Sufi Muhammad in talks. ethnic Pashtuns are not gangsters they are humans like us but they are traditional people who love their culture and moral codes.
