The Pashtunistan issue had nothing to do with Liaqat Ali Khan’s murder. Syed Akbar was not a Pakhtun nationalist, he was known to be a religious fanatic and at the time the religious fanatics were heavily critical of Liaqat Ali Khan. They considered Liaqat Ali Khan to be weak on the Kashmir issue, not religious enough and were angry at the influence of his wife Rana Liaqat Ali Khan who was instrumental in passing laws against multiple wives etc.
