I guess what the majority of us have a problem with is why must one seek to symbolize God in such earthly things? I just can't understand why...<<<
GFQ, with all due respect, the “majority” gives a damn about who worships what, you can worship Banana Peel and Rani can worship Mangoe Pit, and the “majority” will have absolutely no issue with that. It is only a miniscule “minority” that looks for non-consequential issues to make themselves feel better, since they have nothing better to do with their empty heads.

probably you are raised with the idea that "majority is right", whether you live in 'human society' or a 'jungle'.
Your respect is acknowledged, its true the 'majority' may not care much one way or the other. But it seems to me, the 'majority' of the members replying find themselves at odds with this practice and so I was merely trying to put this into perspective, trying to promote understanding (yeah, yeah u can roll ur eyes if u really want to, i wouldn't be too far behind u rueful smile) rather than having long drawn out and obviously inconsequential battles that lead nowhere.
B/C hindus have failed to modernize there primitive religion.
Just like the Aztec & Maya civilization or even African Animalistic ,religions of worshipping jungle animals Elephant ,Lion,Snakes,-cobra-,monkeys,rats,etc.it is unacceptable for modern man to accept zullu ,or Amazaon jungle man behaviour in 21 st century.
If there was one representation of god like in monotheism,it could be acceptable ,but in Hinduism god is represented by BLACK kali & Fat ,haanthi or FAIR ,Durga or many varied artefacts.THE EXCUSE OF HINDUS THAT THEY ARE ALSO ESSENTIALLY MONOTHEIST LIKE MUSLIM & CHRISTIANS IS CONFUSING & WITH NO EVIDENCE OF IT.

included in UNESCO's world cultural heritage list and has suffered
weathering from the wind, water, acid rain and damage from visitors for
centuries

if it were not the case, you would not see Hindu Temples in Karachi, Christian churches in Karachi... I'm only telling about Karachi because thats where I'm from and I know these praying places exist there.

Dear Zohra aka FYI aka Azad Munna,
You cannot shout lack-of-evidence when all you know about hinduism is hearsay. In hinduism, there is no one path to the Ultimate. One can be polytheist, monotheist or even a monoist, and still be right according to hinduism.
like i said, i think its easier if hindus worship flowers and mountains because then they dont have to make the effort making statues, probably saves money too.<
sufimaster, absolutely. hindus do that too. flowers are part of almost all hindu ceremonies. rivers are sacred. mountains are sacred. it's like, when nature inspires awe in a muslim, he praises Allah with "SubhanAllah", hindus display their gratitude to the almighty through respect and
reverence for his creations.
For your information, Hinduism is not a religion (admitted/accepted by almost all Hindus in this forum). Hinduism is a social practice not directed by any book, personality, doesn’t have “FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS/beliefs/rules which can’t be violated”… whatever society decides (or an individual) it can be considered as Hinduism.
