I am very well aware of those kind of studies and flaws in it too.
I don't usually believe in studies myself, however I have seen this far too often in my life so far i.e. homophobes coming out as homosexuals later in their life. So yeah...
Men who are straight still enjoy lesbianism and that is understandable from their view since still they are looking at opposite sex person.
That's only because in the western parts of the world lesbianism is fed to us to be OK by the Media (especially adult movies). Go to the eastern parts of the world (Excluding Japan) and you will see how it's just as unacceptable.

Yes there may be individuals who voice their opinion too loud fearing no one could catch them. But it cannot be applied as a general rule. Until they come out of closet, one has to accept them as they say they are.
Don't know about Japan per se. But from pure psychologic reason, I mentioned that men would not mind women engaged in homosexual activity. Men are more perverted or openly perverted than women. ;)
A pure lesbian will not be accepted as much though.
As for women, they in general are 'not so much in to porn' weather they belong to east or west compared to men. Most women will loath the idea of a man attracted to another man even though they are of opposite sex.
